When people get MAID they get to have their family around. I know people who work in MAID and administer the drugs, and they say it is one of the least traumatic ways a person can die. In my opinion, the reason death is so scary is in part because it is not controlled and most people do not want it. But when someone wants it and has control over it, it is not traumatic.
I think if we could CTB like this and be surrounded by family, there would be way less stigma regarding suicide. I read once that a social worker suggested a "harm reduction" approach should be taken to suicide, and I think that is how it should be handled. Harm reduction is an evidence-based approach for substance use disorders, and I think it would work well in the rest of the mental health environment as well. Definitely better than the current system we have where people are forcefully admitted to hospitals or placed in custody because they have suicidal ideation.
