Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

What about that site that miguel just posted that will wipe my laptop? Is that better than factory reset or the same?
Shit this is a bit overwhelming, I almost don't even care enough to go through the trouble. I might just do a factory reset and hope they can't access anything further.
That's exactly what not to do. I'll take that as a joke. Before being a software engineer I was a crime reporter. Nothing screams investigate this hard drive like finding a computer battered into pieces.
Lol, nice picture, but this laptop was a gift from my mom and I want her to be able to sell it. I use duckduckgo on a tor browser so maybe that will help.

Wow, so I guess you are the perfect person to talk to about this. Maybe I should just do what you suggested. This is confusing, so my instincts are telling me to go with someone who has experience in this specific area.
EDIT: That first quote was supposed to be to miguel.
Well if that site you linked me to for wiping the laptop is easy to use, I might as well use it. Do you know how long it usually takes?

I've never seen a computer forensics investigation opened for a non suspicious suicide (I mean if they suspect homicide that's a whole different circumstance). I've seen them open for child pornography cases, computer fraud cases, massive theft rings.
I'm not so concerned about LE, but rather whether a family member will learn about this site from investigating their phone or laptop, then making it a personal vendetta to do everything they can to get this site shut down, as was the case for Shawn Shatto. We really don't need that again.

I want to protect this site so I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to "WIPE" my laptop clean of all information. I don't just mean factory reset. Apparently, factory reset isn't the most extensive way to erase a laptops memory and files. I've been trying to look it up and seen several people mention that you have to "wipe" the device. Does anyone know the best way to do this?
I live in USA.
Yes, right now, jurisdictions matter.
But if a movement gets strong enough, they could petition the United Nations to create and enforce a ban on sites like this. A nation, who is a member would be persuaded by the UN to enforce the law.
Of course, there are ways around that, as well, but it is still another hassle.
Best to stay out of the news if at all possible.
All the more reason to make sure she does not find out you were on this site before you ctb.
She will blame herself as causing what happened.
I am sure she was not your reason to ctb, nor do you want to guilt trip her.
Destroy the computer, and set it out for trash collection.
Chances are, if she gave you the computer, she will not re-sell it anyway.
Better to miss a laptop, than get a lifetime guilt trip.
I wouldn't worry, if the the forum goes under, another one will emerge to take its place. Besides, the site is indexed on all major search engines, so it's not super-secret (that's how I found it - I did a search on specific suicide methods and it showed up on the first page, just below the Samaritans :) If you are paranoid, just use Tor. It should make you safe against anyone with a possible exception of three-letter agencies in the US (and I don't imagine they would care if someone were to off themselves)

the best way I know of covering your tracks is to use Tails. it's free and very secure. just google search for Tails on duckduckgo and install it on a usb drive. when you shut off the computer and remove the usb, all traces of you vanish. how convenient.

The traces of this site are already on this laptop, so using tails now won't keep them from seeing that. I'm just going to do a factory reset and hope they don't pry any further.
