Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

I found another Golden Gate Bridge picture. Looks like the safety net is just chain link fence, referred to as a "grey steel net". Sorta makes me wonder where's the barbed wire strands?
The website stated that Net construction began in 2018 and is expected to be completed at the end of 2023.
This image is only a "Rendering of the Suicide Deterrent Net"
The Golden Gate Bridge is a rare example of a place that is so often used for suicide via jumping that they felt the need to build a net so that way they don't have any more people complaining about it anymore. In other words, the suicide net was built to shut people up about it.

A lot of information is available about the "physical suicide barrier" as its called, along with its temporary vertical fence companion on https://www.goldengate.org/january-2024-update-on-the-golden-gate-bridge-suicide-deterrent-system/
Not sure what to say about its quarter of a billion dollar price tag though...
Here's the actual 20 foot wide net. Not a rendering. Looks tough to clear, even with a running jump or pole
