i do get that suicidal people are very pain averse and want to end it so ending it with more pain kinda makes no sense so you care about how peacefull it is.
i never been in real dying situation but I did have psychedelic ego death which feels like dying in extreme pain irl and you are sure it is happening.
it is painfull but after you dead there isnt a thing to remember this pain or suffer from it.
it all do not matter after you dead. pain is matters if you can remember it in the future or if you will suffer from it in the future more correctly. my ego death experiences do not making me suffer in the future and i will do them again and they are amazing.
also in extreme distress you have so much adrenaline that you barely feel any pain at all

the most important thing is the percentage of lethality if you really want it

I don't agree. Pain also matters in the moment you are experiencing it. I remember being in a lot of pain after breaking my foot while climbing and although I don't consider the memory of the aftermath of my climbing accident as a particularly bad one as everything fully healed eventually the pain certainly didn't feel good while it lasted. And I think it is a lot harder to commit, if you have to use a method that will cause you to be in a lot of pain. It is hard enough to commit suicide as it is, as humans are naturally wired in a way to be scared of death and avoid it at all costs. So it takes a lot of courage to overcome the fear of death. But if you additionally have to worry about being in a lot of pain while dying it is so much harder to commit.

But I'm not in extreme distress. I'm weighing the odds of extreme distress in the hypothetical future if I keep living. If you're in extreme distress, you need to deal with that before committing.

It's a good question. I don't know why I'm afraid of the pain. I guess cause pain to the point of death might be worse than any other pain I've experienced thus far, and if I have the choice, I'd choose to do as much research possible to try and minimize it. Not everyone has the time or luxury.

tbh, the most painful thing probably not the physical pain when you die, but your own actions and the pain which have accumulated until that point when u decide to ctb. imo it is hard to actually get the ball rolling, not the things afterwards.

i can be in a lot of mental anguish, then forget how it felt when i feel better, then feel it all over again be afraid of the way the pain feels because i can't control how much it hurts. the same thing probably goes for physical pain. i've been thinking these last few days that i am afraid of dying, but i'm more scared imagining what the pain would be like. with sn, it can only be described. but it sounds less psychologically stressful than hanging. physical pain comes before death, so i think i care more about pain. i think it's totally natural to be afraid of pain, because you could survive after experiencing it to still remember how it felt.

I once fell on rough cement and couldn't walk for half a day and can't bathe for a week, one of the worst pain i ever felt. Although since then i've gone through lots of physical and psychological pain. If falling on rough cement is that bad i couldn't imagine dying being stabbed. Also imagine immolation. Yes in one way your suffering ends but are you willing to endure these before you can get your peace?

I think its because not everyones mental/emotional pain is equal. While all pain is valid its like for me I am in a safe situation I have a fiance I am in a secure living situation I dont really want for anything so compared to me when I was in a unstable living situation alone and being abused those two situations are not equal and now this pain is kinda in my field of control where the last pain was being inflicted upon me and even then I am squimish I am emotional I am not hardcore enough for hardcore stuff

the kind of pain that kills you i'd imagine is probably among the worst you could possibly experience so it makes sense to be afraid of it

Regardless of the reason, this fear will force most of here to suffer through life for decades, then have to confront the fear right before we die nonetheless. I think it's absolutely insane that humans keep perpetuating this cycle.

Some people don't have a high pain tolerance. I'm dissociated out of my mind most days so for me hunger, thirst, pain, are very muted. But that's not the case for everyone.

I think it is obvious—and even silly, with all due respect to the point you are making.

Pain varies from person to person; the same applies to emotional pain. There are people who have lost family members—who have even had their pets killed—yet you see them remaining "strong" enough to go on living; conversely, there are others who, on the surface, do not appear to be suffering or facing any serious hardship, yet they express that life overwhelms them and that existence feels incredibly hard.

Sometimes, when I have an anxiety attack or suffer some ailment, I feel moments of desperation, even though I'm aware that most of it stems from anxiety as a symptom. Yet, imagining throwing myself off a bridge or hanging myself—and feeling that pain without the guarantee of death... The real pain lies in knowing that if I survive, things will be worse, and perhaps the next "method" would be waiting to die while in a vegetative state because things didn't go as planned...

What I'd fear is trying to cease existing going wrong and leading to way worse torture and agony in this terrible, dreadful existence where there is no limit as to how much one can suffer and to me existing will always be the most terrible, dreadful mistake.

All I want is to cease existing as peacefully as possible with no more pain and no more suffering and I see so much terrible extreme cruelty in how humans make it illegal to die painlessly, denying the option of painless death is always a terrible crime to me.
