The nitrogen does not go bad. However, the cylinder (container) should be re-checked in 10 years as it can weaken over time. Buy a new cylinder, get it filled, and don't worry about it.

But what about the following statement in the lost all hope wiki:

How is it possible to be still alive after 40 minutes? Oxygen leaking in?
This would mean that some people run out of gas after half of the time if they follow the instructions in the PPH. They probably have been brain dead after a short time but still showed vital signs up to 40 min.?

I'm going to use a cylinder which lasts for ~60 minutes, just to be safe...

Yeah, it's unfortunate that neither of those articles that cite 40 minutes indicate what kind set up was used or discuss what variables may have led to such a long period of time, etc.

It's used in welding, too; artists use it in that capacity.

anti anxiety pills or alcohol are a must for any method tbh and maybe take some time to research and not be lazy. If you live with parent I will allow that you dont have anywhere to test, but you can always rent a hotel for a day or two.

Am I missing something? You can buy the gas in most countries easily and the method is not that complicated and ends up being 100% pain free.

I only found a tank online in the states, I would so go for it if I didn't live in Canada.
Only way to get it is buy an empty tank and head to a shop, you need a licence or to show who you're working for and I'm a young female..could not do it.

Yes, I think its because of O2 leaking, when some people decide to use oxygen masks instead bag or diving mask.
Otherwise one should be dead in much less than 20 min.

dont ever wear a mask, when convulsions set it, it is simply too risky. One small leak and you are trapped in your own mind till old age.

Suicide is dirty business, a bag over your head comon guys its not that big of a deal.

Yes I think that's what they meant. The probably won't answer since it's a three year old thread but I'm pretty sure that's what they meant. Never use an oxygen mask with this method. It's the bag or an expensive fancy scuba mask.

I think it is three things which make N2 less popular.

1. The articulation required to acquire and to put everything together - the gas cylinder, regulator, flow meter, hoses, the bag or mask whichever it is that you are using etc. It is not as simple as say mixing SN and drinking it or drinking N.
2. The variation of ctb timing reported to be between 8 minutes to 40 minutes. Although losing consciousness takes less than 2 mins.
3. The lasting vision of dying with a bag over your head is a turn off for many. Although what happens after you ctb should not matter, most people like to be found in a normal peaceful resting position.

No nitrogen is 100 percent pure. Even for welding it's like 99.98 percent. Look, you basically start to die if what you're breathing in is less than 6 percent oxygen so yeah 99 percent nitrogen will be fine.

Nitrogen I believe is peaceful in that you're passed out pretty quick but it's still SI inducing. I just set up my tank and regulator for the first time to try and it's noisy (ear plugs are a good idea) and the nitrogen is cold. But it doesn't smell like anything. I sniffed it briefly as it was coming out of the hose (didn't put bag over my head) and all I felt was like a cool strong current of air. So it will be noisy and cold. I was hoping I wouldn't hear or feel anything it's still better than SN and hanging and all that. In a way even better than N because you don't have to deal with any horrible taste or anything like that. It's just the waiting to pass out.
