Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

I'm a member of an LGBT Facebook group. Now, most posts there are about grindr which I don't use, gay figures in politics which I don't care about, or relationships which I'm not in one right now so I don't care about it either. I like to post more general stuff there, quuestions, about my personal problems, about work, about creativity, about mental health isssues etc. The group might not be a place for that, but instead of telling me "Listen, this group is about LGBT topics only, your topics don't match the group's expectations, please leave." Everyone calls me a troll, makes fun of me and my problems, answer my questions in a snarky way.

Why are people like that?

People online can hide their real face, like we do on this forum for example, i think it's the "Dog behind a barrier" thing. The situation where two dogs bark and growl at each other making it sound and look like they will tear each other into bits and eat the other but once you remove the barrier they loose that aggression. Most online debates even the really heated ones would not occur in real life.

Also look for another group your old one doesn't sound very pleasant.

I don't really know, but I think negativity, hate and so on are encouraged on social media bcs it's just more profitable, sells better, spreads faster

Unfortunately,
Social media and dating platforms
Have stooped to the level of instant, short-term hedonism.
People make sarcastic, ignorant, or angry comments for various reasons:
To lash out at someone weaker or in a vulnerable state.
Since you cannot give them what they want, they prefer to discard you in that manner.
It may also be that, seeing others behave this way, they repeat those actions to see if they can stand out within a group or setting.

Unfortunately, that's how some places are nowadays; it's really recommended to find another group, another environment then just as other have been saying,
Social Media places like Reddit, Instagram and stuff are sadly filled with people that treat others not like people, or they're being purposefully rude and mean for no reason at all! Trying to show off their knowledge or mock someone's curiousity in worst possible ways and then they get approval even! :/
Sadly, a facebook group like that you speak of really can have some individuals that likely are not there to make friends, but to boast about other things, or hate on certain things together. Plenty of facebook groups I heard of are like that sadly, especially when they're politically motivated just pretty bad, I dont say this one is politically motivated but it's just an example. I remember days when people used to act like they're gay on social media for likes and stuff, why even bother..

It's very not nice of them to do that. They could at least show a little bit understanding.
