These pro lifers why do they feel like that suicide is an easy thing.
Someone I know very close to me has been depressed for a while, and despite knowing what I have been through, they seem to think they can OD on their medication and die, or they think they have googled the best way to hang themselves, or what medication they can take from a chemist.
My question is this, if its that easy, wouldn't most of us here be gone by now?

This person has brushed off my history, made out they know better then me,
I just want to slap sense into them

But seriously if suicide is such a stigma for society, why make it look glamorous it and make it look simple?

The view that suicide is something that is straightforward comes from ignorance, as clearly if people think they can just overdose and die then they've never properly researched suicide, and if they seriously did they would realise that OD's just fail and cause more suffering. Of course if suicide wasn't so difficult I would be long gone at this point, and if people say ridiculous things like 'if you wanted to die you would have done it already', then it's best to take no notice of them. They simply don't understand. I think that unless someone has some kind of peaceful and reliable poison, then suicide is something that is very difficult, at least to me.

I think some people who claim that it's easy haven't REALLY considered it and most likely haven't tried it.

Other's who have considered it are maybe patting themselves on the back because they didn't choose the 'easy way out'. They stuck around for whatever reason. I also find it unlikely that they got as far as an attempt though.

I do know someone who attempted twice and from what they said- their state of mind wasn't in a place to be weighing up the easier option... It sounded to me that for them in any case, they were acting out of desperation.

Your friend sounds curious to me. Maybe they can pull it off. People do I suppose sometimes- like in jail- where they have so few resources. Still, I think the majority of people struggle. I suspect a lot of us need to be in a really dire situation to get the push we need. Honestly- I don't think this person sounds great to be around if they are that dismissive and arrogant.

That's a REALLY interesting question you posed at the end- why is it glamorized and made to look simple in film? Maybe for the same reason serial killers crimes are made into TV series. That fascination with things people don't really understand- especially things that are taboo. REALLY not sure why they make it look easy though. Perhaps because they know they need to kill the character off- so, a failed attempt won't work. I guess at one time, pills were more lethal than they are now. It's slashing wrists that gets me. That was one of the first methods I considered thanks to those films... Glad I didn't try it!

It feels good to hear someone say that ctb is hard. I tried a lot of times, and I keep hearing that "if you fail, it's because you don't really want to die".
SI is difficult to overcome. Common medications are not efficient to cbt. Jumping gives extremely variable results, etc.
Also, it requires a lot of knowledge and a lot of luck.

Well-adjusted neurotypicals rarely think about anything that doesn't concern their present or immediate future, they're closer to animals than you are close to them. Once I understood this I stopped wondering why they're such lousy thinkers; they hardly even have true beliefs; they just parrot the narrative and signal their social status.

The odds are mostly against someone who does attempt, survival insticts kick in etc etc. Its wayyyyy harder then it sounds but of course people want to be smug against suicide survivors telling them "told you so, you cant do it."

I think it's because they value life so much and see if as "fragile and precious" that they see suicide as an easy task. They're clinging onto life and looking forward to the future while we're struggling to end it all.

Probably because most of the time they beleive if you were determined or desperate enough to ctb you would just pick one of the more commonly thought ways to S (i.e. firearm, jumping, hanging) and be done with it. Having interacted with a few people who thought I wasn't serious because I didn't just go gung-ho with self-harm and bleed out, it's kind of shocking that many don't beleive it until you actually attempt. Some also think that everyone else shares the thought that life is so precious, how could anyone actually think of ending it.

Most dont consider SI, attachments, as well as the high failure rate in many methods- whether out of pain, efficiency or accesibility, etc. A person can struggle with suicidal thoughts their whole lives, which some here have, before they start trying to ctb. Some people will never understand that.

Death or the act of suicide is easy, a rope and 2 mins and its done, everyone intuitively knows that.

Getting to that point however is literally the hardest thing a human can do. The brain will do anything and everything to stay alive, it's the most powerful instinct we have, the one to survive. This is the part people do not understand.

I'd just throw something they want back in their face.

Since everything is so easy...

If you really wanted to be skinny, you'd be a size 2.

If you really wanted to be rich, you'd be rich already.

If you really wanted smart kids, you would've given birth to smart kids.

Easy peasy.

Some people are 100% incapable of empathy or putting themselves in other's shoes. It's prevalent in all areas of society, you'll see politicians bashing LGBTQ folks then instantly change their tune when THEIR child comes out. It's all about some people being selfish and only caring about themselves and also their image.
