  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Perhaps, from the person's point of view, it is because the other person judges that he is begging for help directly because he is in such a difficult and painful way.

To be precise, it's just that I don't want to take on the responsibility to bear such a mentally difficult person.

There are people who don't just ask for social favors, meals, housing and work, but just want to leave this world because the world doesn't fit them.

Maybe death itself is the solution to your troubles, so it's right to ask for help with your own suicide.

Attempts to stop suicide by proposing other methods because they do not like such results seem to cause conflict in the opposite direction.

Because we are "different" and suicide challenges the "core belief" of the sanctity of life.

You're like, totally killing my vibe bro! I'm tryna think positive and enjoy the little things and make the best of what I'm given and you're chatting shit about killing yourself, smh damn head.

On a serious note, anyone considering or carrying out suicide reminds people that they or their loved ones too might find themselves in that headspace. That life isn't great at all for a LOT of people. That there is a way out, however unappealing. Compartmentalizing, keeping this knowledge out of sight is key to functioning and enjoying what life has to offer. I'm certainly deficient in this area.

Could it not be that life is sacred because it is, in fact, considered rare because there is only one life?

What would happen if you knew that even if you die once, you have enough lives to respawn, or if you die like a roguelike, you will be born in a different form and start over from the beginning?

Clearly, our moral common sense will crumble and become a common problem like environmental pollution.

They always say to talk and open up, but they never like what they hear. I don't think they despise people with depression, but our society doesn't really provide any guidance on dealing with suicidal people that isn't a hotline number or telling them to try therapy again.

They don't.
I'm sorry, I'm not really writing this to induce empathy, just be aware that it's just an individual's opinion and just know that it doesn't match reality.

'Cause it's a feeling I'm aware of every day.

I apologize for making you feel bad and offended, I didn't mean to share this opinion with the real society, I just want you to note that there are people who think this way.

I wasn't offended, the first bit of my post was mocking the kind of people you mention in the OP. I feel pretty much the same way you do. No worries, I should have made it more clear I was joking.

Let me paraphrase Thomas Ligotti: The world runs on happy time. And it's not about to allow any wet blanket head cases to spoil things.

Actually I've never ridiculed anyone.
Because I'm the one mentioned in the OP.

It's really bizarre. Some people are allergic to pointing out the woes of existence. It's like it disgusts them. Their disgust, disgusts me. How can you be so offended by it? what's offensive are the insults of existence.

Suicide is so stigmatised in society and it seems as though many people do not respect the right to die. Many people live under a delusion that life is always worth living and they dismiss those who are suicidal as always being irrational. Non suicidal people cannot comprehend what it is like to want to leave this world. I believe that suicide should be able to be talked about more openly, I believe that it can be perfectly rational wanting suicide in a world as horrible as this.

In my experience, many people just despise people with depression in general--regardless of what the depressed person is doing or talking about. Thanks to the relentless marketing of anti-depressants and all of the public service announcements stating that depression is (presumably EASILY) treated, there is a real "blame the victim" type mentality around depression. The assumption is that if a person is depressed, that person must WANT to be depressed, otherwise they would have (easily!) already fixed the problem.

Suicide challenges a lot of people's beliefs. It can make them uncomfortable. Like trying to prove god isn't real can make religious people uncomfortable since their entire lives are centered around god. Maybe they don't bother trying to understand because in their mind suicide is considered wrong.

Because its human to be scared of death or the unknown but others who have been or dealt with extreme situations find solace in it and a sort of escape.
