Can someone explain to me what this means? I try to take responsibility when things are in my control like shit team-mates in games etc but IRL I don't understand what they mean? Take responsibility for having shit genetics and being non-NT?

Is it just a way for them to project how they'd behave in a NEET's position?

For the sake of this discussion, assume they don't understand the fact that you are autistic. They see a smart person with a degree and maybe a personality quirk.

Generally, people live like they are making little unwritten contracts with each other. (This is just a visual, but it could help you think about relationships.) Typically, it's expected that if you get something, you will give something in an attempt to even the value. It doesn't have to be money, necessarily, but in some way value is exchanged.

People see a NEET, and they see someone only receiving room and board, food, etc., and not returning the value. That return of value is what they mean by taking responsibility. They're saying to uphold your end of the unwritten contract.

This is just my explanation, I'm not telling you they're right or wrong.

"Take responsibility" is grownup code for "do shit that you really don't want to do but have to do anyway". They're not considering your genetics or any other handicaps that are out of your control. And then there's the classic "but actually you do control how you react to these negative circumstances".

It means they want us to get off our asses and find a job. What they forget is that employment is a two-way street. Life isn't a Sims game where you open the paper and spin around and presto, you are employed.

It's simply that "regular" people don't like NEETs because we're a drain on society.
Which to be honest is a perfectly valid position to hold, I don't blame people for holding that view.

Though so long as the same society forbids euthanasia and other "quick/humane" CTB methods (N, guns etc) then they'll have to wait until I chalk up the courage to hang myself.

If they insist on making my exit as difficult as possible then they don't get to complain that I'm still here taking up resources.

literally just this
most people just want to feel better about their position in life, so they feel the need to project themselves onto others

like, "oh i could never be in your position, its too stressful! how can you live like that? if i were you, i would..." and go from there
what they dont understand is the limitations both physical and mental that go into it (most of the time), and believe everything can be fixed in a less than 10 step process
if somethings easy for you, it wont always be for the other person

There are NEETs who are NT and vice versa. You talk about having a hard time understanding others while also dehumanizing them and reducing down to "normies" and "sheeple" and "NT". Maybe instead of shitting on everyone you could instead actually reflect on upbringing that leads to this type of mentality that you hate so much? You'll never truly understand these people no matter what answers we give you unless you are willing to actually see them as people.

It's some useless advice like the other ones "you can be everything you want", "everything is possible".If people are told that many times, then they believe it

Probably because they succumbed to taking responsibility for their life and financing- whether they wanted to or not. Whether they found it difficult or not. Whether it damaged their mental health. I've known relative 'normies' who have said they cry every morning before going in to work!

So- it's a kind of- if I'm going through this torment, why shouldn't you? There can be resentment there. If they personally are financing you and to some extent, everyone who works are financing NEET's, we can sometimes feel like- we're working our arses off to provide luxury for people who may or may not seem so different to us. (Especially if we ourselves are struggling and work intensifies how much.)

That's not to say some cases aren't genuine. Some people truly can't work but, many might be able to but they don't want to. Plenty of people who work also don't want to! We're probably just jealous that we're either not strong enough to rebel or try and milk the system. Or, that we don't have family that can or will support us.

Plus, it's only ourselves that can take responsibility at the end of the day. They may actually think it would be a positive thing for someone to have a job. To have a new focus in life, to meet new people and have money to become independent.

Do you thoroughly enjoy your NEET lifestyle or, does life seem boring and pointless and prohibitive with a lack of money? Some people see employment either as a focus in life- if you are lucky enough to do a job you enjoy. Or, simply a means to an end. The money it generates being the thing that brings fulfilment. Not to say they're right. I think both situations suck in their own way!

Whether you are able to work or not is irrelevant.

You are solely responsible for figuring out how to pay your own bills.

It doesn't matter if you want to be a doctor or a NEET; the question of how you support yourself, whether through earned or unearned income, applies to all of us.
