Why do humans kill each other over religion? Just curious?

I think it's an alien recognition system. People tend to divide into groups and hate other groups.
This eventually leads to a banal struggle for power and money.

People of one religion seeing others with different beliefs which also claim to be the absolute truth remind them of the absurdity and falsity their own beliefs, and from that conflict and genocide inevitably happens.they don't
the men kill each other and then the women remaining are fertilized more often by men who win
this passes on the genes of men who wish to fight and also are better at fighting

Stupidity. Humans are still just big stupid apes.It is relatively rare. Most wars are over land, resources and elites trying to stay in power.
But some people like to kill. They just need to find some reason / excuse to do it.
Killing purely for religion can be motivated by promise of eternal paradise or other benefits. It is not only a huge devotion, but also a nice reward.

I agree with others- the desire for violence/ revenge/ retribution/ aquistion of resources is already there. But, people use religion to justify it to themselves plus, groom other people to do it. A bit like a 'get out of jail card'. My God supports what I'm doing- type deal.

Sounds logic, but the genes of the survivers could also be the genes of the cowards.
A contrary aspect: Death sentence sorted out the genes of killers and psychopaths because normally young man were executed before they were able to reproduce. Human sacrifices were the origin of death sentence, so this is contribution of religion to the human domestication.Ig it's the idea that after doing something for their god, they're owed a reward
Humans are just like any other animal. We will fight for resources and ward off anyone who is "different". Religion is a way to facilitate that, nothing more. If religion was not here, we would fight over something else.
