So maybe there's something I'm missing here, but I've been wondering lately why poisonous plants aren't way more common for people to ctb.

I've been mainly looking into yew or moonshook so far. From what I've found there's a lot of positive points about those methods:
- Easily accessible and cheap
- Success is likely when you take the "correct" plants
- If you don't succeed, you probably won't have any lasting effects that make another try impossible

Is there something I am missing?

There are many ways to die. Most people avoid those that are painful, unreliable and more likely to cause injury than death.
Plants are unreluable.

I've often wondered the same thing, just not smart enough to do the research.

Slow and painful, can give you an organ damage rather than killing you.

The dosage, i think. it's difficult to measure it out accurately just by looking at the plant alone, as individual plants product varying amounts of the poison required to actually make CTB successful. There's also the pain factor, as it's quite possible the plant you ingest will generate enough pain but isnt lethal enough to do the job.

It'd be extremely painful, which definitely isn't optimal

It's a good question. I bet there is something out there that is quick and painless. But unknown. Maybe needs to be juiced. For sure there's something.
