Most interactions with people in day to day life inspire no emotion in me. Soul sucking

I feel like fictional characters draw more emotion out of me than real people.

Well, there are all kinds of people, although I admit that sometimes I prefer to keep listening to others rather than chatting.

Some people are introverted and there's nothing wrong with that.

I wish the same thing too. It hurts so much that I get emotional fulfilment from nothing at all. No matter what I do, I always feel shitty by just being alive. I hope you find peace soon

I cannot speak for everyone, but I think the reason why certain people use entertainment for emotional completion, is because it helps to fill some form of void that they have in their lives. The lyrics of a song might strongly resonate with your own feeling of pain after a rejection, a movie character could experience situations that you have in the real world - scene for scene - so they become very relatable, a group of friends in a sitcom might mirror your own ideal image of a friend circle. Fictional entertainment can allow a person to live out a fantasy of being somebody, or doing something, that they cannot realistically achieve in the real world.

Because they are suppliers of dopamine for our brain. Dopamine, which all of us on this site are deficient in. Of course, greatly simplified :)

In my opinion it's visual opiates for the masses. Chlorine for the brain. You know, to placate people's attention away from all the murder, rape, wars, corruption ect.

Escapism. I find that the only times I ever enjoy life is when I get lost in some good book or video game. Easy to forget how much you hate the world when you can be immersed in a better and more fulfilling one.
