It's so much better day > month > year.

And don't even get me started with imperial system.

When you say the date in conversation do you say the 13th of April? April 13th is quicker by 2 syllables but otherwise I agree.

Because that style propagates freedom and so does the imperial system. I don't know, maybe some people like to live with liberty.

To me it makes most sense to either go from the biggest to smallest or smallest to biggest. In Japan it's 2022.04.13 and it makes much more sense.

I think that when discussing something that happens soon it's best to say dd/mm/yy, for example, if you have a meeting soon, it's best to think days first because the appointment will be within days not years or months. It's more often "Is the meeting on Wednesday or Thursday?" or "On 24th or 14th?" instead of "Is the meeting in 2002 or 2003?" or "Is the meeting in January or March?". But when you, for example, have a huge list of things happening between 1888-2222 it's best to list them by yy/mm/dd. For example, if you want to find a specific Pokemon anime episode, it's nicer to search for it if the episodes are listed year first than day first.

I never see any reason to list month first and when you see something like "Best before 12/05" and have to think whether it means 12th May or 5th December it is just ridiculous.

'cuz Murica! F*ck yeah!

Seriously, it makes no sense. DD/MM/YYYY format is a lot more intuitive.

Admittedly, when sorting files it is atrocious. I should be dating my backups Year > month > day, but I'm too lazy to rewrite my scripts. Yes, I am a lazy American, no, I don't like how we manage our measurement or calendars either. We tried to change it under Jimmy Carter, but something something "Takin' away mah inches n' feet is COMMUNISM' nonsense, and so we're stuck like this.

I don't mind the American dating method. Putting the month up front immediately places the date within a seasonal context, which is especially convenient if looking at historical dates. Maybe the Y/M/D makes more sense.

Because it's the only way to have 4/20 as a date. I also think month/day/year just makes more sense because having the month first is better for setting up what time of the year it is.

I also think the metric system as a whole is overrated. Under the imperial system, room temperature is at 69 degrees and many food items get baked at 420 degrees. Average freeway speed is 69 miles per hour. Using kilograms to measure weight is very confusing when it actually also indicates mass, a completely different factor that we don't have an equivalent to.

I think what you really meant to ask is why do all of the people outside of the US write the date incorrectly? {KIDDING!}
