I sometimes I imagine us a the representatives of our nations. We are like a UN on SaSu and we are all diplomats.
I think I have some common stereotypes of Germans. For sure you learn a lot about German sentence structer when you read my texts. And which mistakes Germans often do when writing on English.

I don't drink beer. I like soccer though. I am a moralistic person. I don't vote AfD. I am a centrist. I am closer to the German free speech laws than the American approach.

Today I talked with a German college friend that I am posting in an international forum. He wanted to know some things that are common for Americans. I told him I vibe way better with Americans in contrast to a forum full of Germans. I told him two common patterns I observed when talking to them. They are very much into conspiracy theories. He wanted an example and I mentioned potential false flag attacks on Trump. And I told him Americans will always defend their approach to free speech no matter.

So now it is your turn? What have you observed when talking to me/reading my posts?

I'm disappointed. Now I won't be able to imagine you as a slightly overweight Bürger with a ton of beer 😢

Well, even though I'm a big fan of german Idealism - especially Hegel - it's a shame there's so little of his work available in the languages I speak. My image of Germans mostly comes from sociology: Weber, Simmel, Marx, the Frankfurt School, and people like Freud, Viktor Frankl, and other psychoanalysts. They left me with the impression that Germans are constantly researching society and conducting surveys. And from the posts of yours that I've seen, you definitely seem to confirm that my stereotype.

Why? Under German law, a forum like Sasu definitely wouldn't be allowed to exist. And American free speech case law is incredibly interesting - there are so many opinions by Supreme Court justices that are worth stealing and framing. Ukraine also has similar laws that ban communist and nazi political parties. I don't like those laws, even though I don't sympathize with either of those groups of idiots.

Suicide has been ruled a fundamental right in Germany, so maybe after a bit of back and forth they would need to let it be
Wait, what?? That's new to me, never heard of! I live in Germany, but since I don't speak the language I must admit I'm usually out of the loop in regards of local news and politics. But AFAIK, it's not a fundamental human right *anywhere* on Earth, even though I wish it was.

The details about this are fascinating but also a little bit sad. Yes, the 2020 highest court ruling was a fundamental change and the vast majority of citizens welcomed it. (Voßkuhle was a really great and empathetic highest judge and listened patiently to the stories of suffering patients.)
But politicians from more or less all parties, media elites and lower courts are sabotaging the spirite of the ruling increasingly. And in practice it is still very difficult to receive assisted suicide especially if you are mentally ill and doctors received long prison sentences for helping patients to die.

Yep, it's difficult in practice.. Especially the depression-diagnosis loop;
You say you want to excersise this right, then you being sad/down will be diagnosed as depression, or an already existing diagnosis will be used as the reason, upon which you will be deemed incompetent because of having a "mental illness being responsible for your thoughts"
And as the entire psych diagnositc system is purely based on interpretation, it's gonna be very difficult to get your right respected, which then leads to the same problem we already have - people will keep these thoughts to themselves and eventually just do it

Very interesting. But it seems to be mainly about *assisted* suicide only, which isn't something I'd ever consider, not least because it usually requires some sort of hospital setting, and the thought alone gives me an urge to run away. And I can run very fast indeed - I'm a very able-bodied young athlete, and although I may be neurodivergent I don't have any actual mental illness either, and I can't really imagine that someone in this situation would be granted this extent of self-determination.
I've seen posts on here by someone in Germany about how some false "friends" sent the cops after him for being suicidal, and this seems much more in line with my own experience of how this kind of situation would be handled in Germany.

Actually, I think having a mental illness makes it more difficult to receive assisted suicide in Germany compared to having none.
I think someone was able to receive assisted suicide because they hated their trainingship. But the media used the example to fearmonger about it the actual reasons were probably more complex.
Personally, I consider the hurdles as way too high. And there are a lot of them.

Indeed they are way too high and too many, as I said I wouldn't even want assistance anyway, all I wish is that it wasn't so difficult to access both the means and even relevant information - simply that the taboo was taken off it.

Honestly, your posts could be from anywhere in the world and I wouldn't know you were German without you identifying that.
I have very few stereotypes but as a kid I had a neighbor from Germany. She was very kind, a hard worker and someone we really liked. Other members of her family who still lived in Germany would occasionally visit and it was always fun when they did. Her brother in-law was the only man and he was especially outgoing, gregarious, and loved to enjoy things. They would bring the best chocolate I've ever had and we'd play games and always had fun. My neighbor's sister was great too but she was probably the first woman I ever met who didn't shave. So I'd say my main impressions of Germans are that they're genuine, and nice to be around. Also, you have great chocolate and at least some women don't shave (of course there are women who don't shave in the US too), lol.

The ruling legalized both.
But in practice it's much harder to do a DIY method with those circumstances.
Also the PsychKG (German psych act), still applies, where you can often be held temporarily until a judge decides if you're mentally competent or not. A way to exercise the right more securely would be to get a "Patientenverfügung" (patient will) + attestation from a Psychiatrist that you were able to make free will'd decisions at the point of writing said will.. (also it is generally recommended from what I have seen, to go to a notary and have them make the patient will with you)

Thank you for the info. But I want nothing to do with any psychiatrists, and I wouldn't dare to reveal my suicidal ideation to anyone, least of all a psychiatrist or anyone in official position. I try to stay below the radar as much as possible.

That's unfortunately probably the reality of what would be best, otherwise I could imagine that a patient rights lawyer would be best to contact during this process, so you have a bit more - competent - support + you have a way more solid "standing" socially that way..
It looks and is all way more official and so people actually realize that you are not messing around.. Because threatening with a lawyer when you dont already have one and find yourself in a situation where hospitalization is on the table - and especially then letting them break you and not follow through - will just scream childish mental illness to everybody, and you essentially will only lose more freedom and autonomy that way.

One thing you unfortunately learn the hard way from my experience is that nobody there is your friend and they don't care about you as an individual at the end of the day, nor about your autonomy of course.
Gears in the system doing their job. Very few to none actually competent people in public mental wards

I already know that, I was put in a psych ward as a child twice, aged 11 and 13, both times brought there by brute force and traumatized.
