I forgot how I got the idea. I read a lot about climate change and the battle between China and the US recently.
There are many different answers to this question. It depends on the context for example whether you belong to a certain minority.
I think the US is a very good place to live if you have very much money. I am not sure but I assume there are areas where there are less shootings. In the US taxes for rich people are low. I read many high qualified worker avoid migrating to Germany because of the high taxes and racism.
But I will come later back to this. I think bay areas will suffer a lot because of the rising sea levels. Hurricanes and other climate catastrophes will increase.
Some areas which are affected I think: Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines
I once read New York, the Netherlands and Venice are other examples but I cannot find the source
But not only the rising sea levels are an issue. Also the extreme climate events, droughts and the lack of water. I am no expert so I won't go on.
So I think it is clear Africa won't be the best place to live in. I am no expert but I could imagine the increase of the population could make the fight for the remaining resources even worse.
I think Australia and Oceania will be affected a lot by climate change too.
The temperature in the Middle East will be even more aggressive for sentient beings to cope with.
Asia is very heterogeneous. Japan has an horrible demographical problem. I am glad I was not born in India the rape stories I read were horrendous. Of course this happens everywhere but I hate the idea of the caste system and Modi is a wanna-be dictator (exaggerated). The masses and how low the worth of individuals is scares me. Afghanistan I think we all know how horrible the circumstances are.
China is very interesting. I think many Western citizens underestimate how many people still live in poverty there especially in the rural area. It is astonishing how many people were lifted out of poverty in such a short time. Though the price they have to pay (living in an autocratic dictatorship) is very high. I am not sure when China will surpass the USA in power relations. I am always fascinated how many colleges and huge cities they have. We in Germany have only a few cities with more than one million citizens and in China there are so many. However I think the life quality will not be as good as in other countries in China even if they became the world superpower. The reasons for that are lack of a developed welfare system (could be developed though) but also the lack of civil rights and liberal democracy. Me as someone who is very interested in politics would have an hard time. I had to decide between joining the propaganda party or being exposed to the risk of getting into prison for supporting the non-existent opposition. There are many things where I think the Western lifestyle has more to offer. There clearly is more freedom. Like these insane gaming laws for young people in China. These are so ridiculous. I think porn is banned in China of course many people still watch it though. Criticizing the leader can lead to prison. There are loopholes for that. It is like a valve to allow such things and not to crack down on everything. The thing that is horrible for me: They impose the law arbitrarily. When you cross certain red lines they punish you for things which are a grey area. The surveillance system and monitoring is more extreme than in the West. In Russia VPNs are illegal (I think) not sure about China. They also cracked down on the elites. Especially when they become too powerful for the party. There were some extremely rich people in China who just disappeared. Moreover in order to fight corruption (sometimes for real, sometimes as an excuse) parts of the elites were put into prison. Due to the fact there is no independent court system you will have way less security about what happens to you. This fact would make me even more anxious if I lived there.
Europe. There are already huge discrepancies whether you live in Romania or Norway for example. I will mainly refer to highly developed European countries. I could imagine North Europe will still be the best place to live in. Best education system, lower inequality, very good health care system, attractive for high qualified workers etc. Germany where I live I don't know. I read many people here in this forum who said Germans are pretty unfriendly and this might be true. There probably is also a lot of racism behind the facade of political correctness. I think Germany is especially interesting because it is easier to find a job here.
Now my thoughts on the US. I think I would prefer Canada over the US in most cases. There is so much drama in the US. The political polarization is so extreme. The shootings are scary. The mainstream media system especially the TV channels are horrendous. The health care system is a joke. However if I was part of the elite I might choose the USA. The allure of power is the biggest. Most of the artists that I love come from the US. So they have a lot of cultural elites. The diversity is very interesting if not the society was so torn apart. I am as a German always overwhelmed when I listen to Americans chanting their national anthem. On the one hand it scares me on the other hand it is really fascinating. There are many interesting individuals that live in the US. They have the best colleges in the world, the progress of science which stems from the US is huge. The most talented people want to be part of this project. The idea of a melting pot is interesting. So much art and entertainment is produced there. Everything seems to be bigger and louder there. As a child I wanted to live there but nowadays as an adult I think all this entertainment might have the usage to distract from a deep-seated sadness.
I think in the last part of the thread I lost the connection to possible changes in the future. My conclusion is the fact whether your country is the world superpower does not change the life quality of your average Joe and Jane. It might be interesting for the elites but if you are a work slave that gets exploited you cannot buy anything from that. Again way too long thread. Lol.
I forgot the option: on another planet.
