Looking at suicide statistics, we know the most common and most successful method is firearms. (In the US at least)

On this site we see people discussing hanging and poisoning as methods, followed by other less common methods.

Why is this site different? Are there firearms people on this site and not commenting? Or is there something special about people who choose that method that means they don't hang out on discussion boards?

I am just realizing every method has so much difficulty, at least for me, and wondering why I haven't heard more about guns here.

Many people coming to SaSu do so to find a working method they can use to CTB. If you already have firearms, you have a reliable method at your fingertips and have no need to search out alternatives. Guns also lend themselves to impulsive suicides.

That makes sense.

I have a firearm, but due to weak willpower I can't use it. In general, the method with weapons is often discussed here, there is a Megastream of weapons

If I lived in a country that didn't check my mental health and made guns more accessible to me I wouldn't be here looking for methods.

Yes, I purchased the gun last year on an online gun store-picked it up at a local store, whole process took 5minutes.
I know what bullet I will need, will purchase when 'ready' -

Those who choose firearms tend to be much more solitary and highly atypical suicide victims, with a closed and direct approach: they hold a tool with virtually negligible fallibility and, precisely for this reason, feel no need to confront or refine their "technique." They aren't the type of person who seeks advice, nor seeks psychological or therapeutic support: once they make the decision, there's minimal room for hesitation and the decision is executed quickly.

That said, let's move on to our reality here on the forum, which is a snapshot of society and, in particular, of the suicidal world in general, but it does not match the picture that emerges from U.S. statistics on firearm suicides. Even though there are highly active discussions on this topic here, those who take part remain part of the forum's dynamic, with timelines, patterns, and motivations that differ from those of people out there who fit the profile described by the data.

Nietzsche used to say that "the thought of suicide is a powerful source of comfort; with it, one gets through many a bad night."

I have had my exit (gun)waiting since 1997.

Divorces, cancer, job loss, depression, anxiety, list goes on. Still here, but nice knowing I have the option waiting when ready.

Unfortunately, tho, that's not quite true.
I understand what you mean, but statistically, we're still talking about a 90% lethality rate, which is among the highest of any method. That remaining 10% includes cases like attempted murder, wounds from low-caliber firearms, and deflected shots. While there are certainly reports of people surviving with very serious injuries, these are almost always the same cases that end up in the newspapers and the same types of people, such as those who shot themselves in the face or under the chin. In practice, with an appropriate weapon and in an isolated location, the survival rate becomes negligible: once a person shoots themselves in the head and loses consciousness, there's not much time to get them to the hospital.

What I'd like to know is if anyone at all has ever survived a shotgun (preferably 12g or larger, but even smaller) loaded with buckshot or a slug - or even birdshot - with the barrel deep in the mouth pointing a little upwards.

Research suggests that 90% of people who ctb with a firearm have never attempted suicide before and many are not even depressed. Most people are drunk when they do it. The desire for death is often more acute than chronic in these individuals.

SaSu's user base is more chronically suicidal people, many of whom are really stuck on the wish for an ideal death free of pain, fear, and risk. Users will become very upset at the realization that sn isn't completely peaceful, get scared of agonal breathing and convulsions that happen after losing consciousness, and frantically try to dissuade other users from selecting painful but reliable methods. The obsession with sanitizing death is fascinating.

When someone who is truly comfortable using a gun to ctb comes on here it's usually brief because, well, they're dead pretty quick. There was a user here who posted "I'm thinking about getting a gun" one day, then the next day "I got my gun"... And then, they're goodbye thread was the next day and they haven't been seen since. Some people just don't worry about the aftermath and are capable of doing it just like that and others aren't.

So far I just haven't been able to build up the mental fortitude to move my finger the requisite half inch, plus, yes, the fear of failing and becoming a pain ravaged human vegetable that they will spare no expense and effort to keep alive for as many years as they can. True, others will not overthink it and just do it.

Yes, I think that's the key. We've had too much time to overthink about it.

I've never seen any credible survivals in the position you describe, with a 12-gauge shotgun, intraoral firing, and loading it with pellets, buckshot, or slugs aimed at the soft palate, but not even aimed at the throat. There are, however, cases of survival with a 12-gauge shotgun, but only when the shot was fired externally, into the face, under the chin, so as not to directly hit the brain. And it takes a lot, however, not to hit it with a weapon like that. There have also been testimonies from people who have joined the forum claiming to have shot themselves and survived, but these are mostly users who wrote four or five posts and then disappeared, so I don't know how reliable those accounts are; I've only read one or two like that in total. As for survival in the scenario you described, there are no cases even with smaller calibers; instead, documented survivals in the scientific literature exist only with very small calibers. And in any case, there are no reports of any survivals, above a certain caliber, of people who were in isolated places.

However, if anyone has scientific documentation regarding the context you described, I would be very curious to read it.

May I ask what you're using? I'm looking at my options. I've never shot anything bigger than a .22 and I doubt that's enough. Planning on putting it in my mouth so I don't just blow my face off and live.

That was gonna be my exit method until my friend's mom attempted to ctb that was and essentially labotomized herself. Now she's just a burden on her family and will never be the same again. I want a method that will work

Do you know any details like what type of gun it was and how and where where she aimed it?

I can't give you advice on calibers, but no a .22 is not enough. There is a high chance you could survive and end up a vegetable. Please don't use a .22

When people say .22 they are usually referring to the .22 lr round. Ar15's also use a .22 round (called .223) but it is an intermediate round, larger than a handgun/plinker round but smaller than an full size rifle round. Press be damned ar's are not a killer round, it may kill you but it's not guaranteed. Hell most states don't allow a person to hunt deer with an ar.

That said there are supposedly people that committed suicide with a 22 lr. What happens is the round is so weak that it can't exit the skull and so bounces around in you brain doing enough damage that way to turn the lights off.

Sounds like the friend's mom shot herself in the temple and it only hit the frontal lobes or more likely one lobe from bad aim. Temple shots are not reliable!

In my case I live in Europe, lol. If I did live in a place that had gun laws as lax as the US does, I would have blown my lid open a while ago. Unfortunately we here have to make do with Looney Tunes tier stuff thats hardly guaranteed to work.

Can you buy shotguns there? Shotguns are by far the best, plus they are usually much easier to acquire then handguns in places with restrictive laws.

Imo 1. 12 gauge shotgun deep in mouth aimed at brainstem . 2. 12 gauge magnum slug or magnum Buckshot ammo the most velocity and muzzle energy better.

Imo This will explode the head expelling the brain from the skull

High powered high velocity rifle also . Velocity is king u don't want fmj bullets. U want hollow point or hunting bullets

Velocity with a hollow point or expanding bullet is king

The higher velocity makes the bullet expand and deliver most of the energy within a few inches
