Regarding the jump method:

A guy I went to High School with ended his life by jumping from the top level of a parking garage. He was suffering from schizophrenia and despite his struggle, which he kept private and maintained a "normal" appearance, he was a successful hockey player and even played for a team based out of Florida. He came from a well-to-do family and had many siblings (I believe he had 8 or 9 brothers and sisters). Though we went to high school together, we weren't friends. I watched him play hockey and he was always friendly and on the quiet side. When he jumped from the parking garage, people in the community were shocked. Anyhow, from watching videos of people who jump from buildings and bridges, I truly believe once you hit the ground, it's lights out almost instantaneously.

The reason I won't jump is the fear of landing on someone else. I don't want to take anyone out with me, you know?

Nobody knows 100 percent for sure. It's too risky. It's like let's see if you choose a peaceful method there is an almost 100 percent chance you will keep your dignity and have a safe transition to the afterlife/death. But if you choose a method which it's unknown if it will be peaceful. Then you risk having your dignity and everything you love ripped away from you in the most horrific manner imaginable.

Meaning don't play Russian roulette with your dignity.

The problem is that peaceful methods rarely work.

And actually I'm not really sure that pill overdoses are peaceful in the rare instances where they actually lead to death.

The only reason most pill overdoses are peaceful is because they don't do much harm, or come close to killing a person.

most pill overdoses are far from peaceful, especially those involving OTC painkillers.

also both the inert gas method and N are considered peaceful, and are also reliable. i wouldn't say there's a linear relationship between peacefulness and non-reliability

There was a guy in NYC who failed in a suicide attempt from the 39th floor. He landed on a car windshield, and it's believed this "saved" his life since it's a softer surface than the ground. The only good news is that news reports about 2 months later reported he was recovering well and was walking.

So, I guess you need to avoid cars when you fall. Even if you don't care about the damage to other people's property.

There's also the window washer who fell from the 47th floor and survived. It's speculated his scaffold absorbed a large portion of the fall. He was able to walk again within a year.
That is why, people tend to jump off bridges.

I haven't brought myself to go there yet but yes I do live in the Bay Area. They have surveillance cameras & patrol to watch for jumpers.
I saw a documentary on the jumpers of the Golden Gate Bridge. And it seems there are patrols that look for jumpers, including those on bicycles that ride the pedestrian walk ways. And even if one looks like a tourist the patrolmen might still stop and question anyone they see along the pathway.

I read that too. Still that is a freak thing to happen.

Definitely something to consider if one wants to exit discretely. If one does attempt a ctb method that is attention getting, then best to do so without any I.D. , so the news can only name the deceased a "John Doe".

I'm assuming that investigators will do a dna check, or in time, anyone who notices you missing might file a report. This will eventually lead back to the day of the jump, but by that time this will be old news, and the media will be too preoccupied with other things like kim kardashian's ass.

If one falls backwards off a ledge will that be more likely to result in a head/neck-first landing? I may need this as my backup method and I do not want to be conscious for any length of time after hitting the ground.

I think about it often. For me, it's probably one of the most accessible forms to ctb.

Jumping into water has a much higher survival rate than jumping onto land. Seriously, even Golden Gate has a 5% survival rate for the actual jump. (Subsequent drownings reduce the survival rate to 2%.)

A car windshield is only a soft surface compared to the land. It's actually a much harder surface than water.

Like I said, it varies. In the ideal scenario, you'd be top heavy and dove down like a swimmer, that way you aren't rotating mid air and land on your legs or butt.

Horizontal is the worst way to fall, and the 2nd worst way of landing because your velocity is slower (air res.) and the energy is more evenly distributed across the body. Our bones are adapted to long low energy tension, but brittle to acute shocks. In physics terms, the slower the shock is the harder it is to break.

Jumping ideally causes death from decceleration that liquifies all vital organs near instantly. Even 0.5 m/s (1.1 MPH/ 1.8 KmPH) can mean the difference between instant death or becoming a concious vegetable (and lose function of all sensors with major cognitive impairment).

With enough speed you'll likely faint due to the G-force. But notice how much I emphasis speed, you'll probably need at least 300ft straight down (ideally into pavement). tbh vertical decceleration is simpler as far as variables are concerned, you just have to worry about accelerating into a sturdy anchored object.
You have to jump from really high to gain enough speed to faint due to g force. I can remember watching a programme about the September 11th attacks. The poor people that had to jump did not reach enough speed to faint before hitting the ground but they did jump from high enough to die straight away on impact. One world trade centres top floor was 1355ft high. People jumped from below that height but they must have still be jumping from around 1000ft ish

I can confirm from personal experience that you don't 'pass out' before you hit the ground. You are fully aware you hit the ground and remain conscious enough for a few seconds to see your mangled body with bones sticking out...and don't even mention the pain...

I've not done much research on jumping as its a method that doesn't suit the way I want to go which is in privacy. But one of my thoughts would be is to take warfarin, a blood thinning drug beforehand so you would bleed out if you did survive the fall with little chance of saving you. Its a drug that you find in rodent control poisons.

I think you need to ensure it's high enough and never jump feet first. The trauma needs to be on your upper body and head.
Beachy Head in the UK is a good example of an ideal place. 500ft high and onto hard ground/rocks.

Warfarin would have definitely meant I would have died if id known to take it as I bled out massively internally from my pelvis, spleen, pancreas and stomach.

I jumped off a 3 story building onto concrete by accident... broke my pelvis, sacrum and lumbar/spine... worst pain of my life. The falling wasn't so bad but I was probably in shock. If I lived near the Golden Gate Bridge or Beachy Head, etc. that'd probably be my method.

So sorry you ended up like that. Did you have any surgery on your pelvis or sacrum? My broken sacrum is what has left me with permanent nerve damage meaning my bladder and bowel don't work any more.

I didn't have surgery and my bladder/bowel came back after 6 months.

My injuries pale in comparison to yours though. You're super tough to be on a forum like this in your condition, I wouldn't have been able to do it.

It came back?! Can I ask if you're male or female? Thanks, there's not a bunch else to do. I get log rolled onto my side for 10 seconds every 4 hours and that's it..I do keep dropping my phone on my face though ‍♀️

It came back, so don't give up hope. I'm male.

Ahh, the log rolling... I quiver at the thought of the intense pain they caused me.

Sorry if this is getting a bit personal haha but I'm so distressed by it. Basically I can't pee, I have sensation etc but just can't go. Is that what you had? And how did it come back? Also my whole left groin area is numb and I can't lift my toes on my left foot all due to the sacral nerve damage.

No worries. That's what I had, yes. I had to use a catheter to pee for 6 months. Then one day I could squeeze it out if I exerted "pressure." Little by little I could pee with less and less effort.

9 years after the accident I still kinda feel numb/tingly in the anus/groin region and right foot but you get used to it.

Oh my god you've given me some hope. Thank you so fucking much. Were you self catheterising until then? I've googled the shit (pardon the pun) out of it and never really got anywhere, thank you!!!!

You're welcome! Yea I worked the catheters myself... boiled them in water to clean, rinse/repeat. You will get "return of function"... to what degree you get "return of function" only time will tell. In the mean time I recommend doing the rehab and giving it 100% effort.

Thank you. I'm female but hopefully the same will happen. So bowel/bladder wise is normal for you? How long did it take overall? I'm so sorry to keep asking but the neurosurgeons won't say anything about it.
