I feel as though posting a quote is a cliche first post but this one always gives me the goose pimples.

"Death isn't the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside of us while we live."

I've loved this quote since I first heard it.
OMG that is one of my favorites as well! I tell people this all the time.

At one time, I wanted to get this tattooed on my arm.

Yeah the owner of this chat or the people he allowed to gain large access to his/her sites are better much abusing there power. In all honesty it doesn't who is abusing there power it is the owner fault none the less. So this is most likely my last post here because they will ban or kick me probably. So be careful what you post here because it is run by people with ego and pride problems who balls are two small to handle other peoples opinion. So yeah goodbye guys and good luck. The only regret i have coming here is not meeting some of the good people here.

"And if i decided that i had nothing left to live for - who the hell are you to tell me otherwise? To force my hand like that? (...) What did you expect? That i have some kind of epiphany, some life affirming catharsis? (...) I wanted to die my way (...) that was my choice. You took that away from me. But you know better. All i wanted to (...) was to get out of this endless horrific nightmare i live everyday. I wasn't hurting anyone else. You took my choice away. And you expect... gratitude...?!"
- TWD, Andrea

My favourite quote because it reflects quite well my feelings for being 'saved' from my first CTB attempt, 9 years ago.

"life sucks, then we die"
You made me laugh, thank you :)

your favorite quote

Recently I heard (for the first time?) a meant, personal "How are you?"
It beat all the wisdoms and quotes I've ever loved.

I was so totally on Andrea's side (and I wasn't even close to suicidal). After that episode I couldn't help but dislike the old man. I mean, if he had this expectation of gratitude, there was clearly a certain lack of understanding in him that I need as a minimum in a person.

I'm sorry to hear about you having experienced it yourself.

My favourite anything changes on an almost daily basis; be it a song, ice cream flavour or film. It's something to do with the nature of the word 'favourite' for me. Anyway, this is a quote from the Canadian writer Hugh MacLennan that I was given cause to remember a days ago by something someone wrote on this very forum...

"There is no simple explanation for anything important any of us do, and the human tragedy, or the human irony, consists in the necessity of living with the consequences of actions performed under the pressure of compulsions so obscure we do not and cannot understand them."

"The only thing I know is that I know nothing at all". - Socrates/Plato
It's kinda funny how I've always said a similar thing to that sentence ("all I know is that I don't know"), then sometime this year my grandpa talked about Socrates and mentioned that quote.

"Those who strive to merely please others will achieve nothing but failure."

It speaks to the issue of people trying to hard to please people who can't be pleased no matter what.

"One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter."

It speaks to our world that people think is divided between good and evil, when in reality, it's all evil. One day, climate change will finally remind humanity that the climate doesn't discriminate.

"As gay people, we choose our families." - RuPaul

Speaks for itself.

"Killing oneself is, anyway, a misnomer. We don't kill ourselves. We are simply defeated by the long, hard struggle to stay alive. When somebody dies after a long illness, people are apt to say, with a note of approval, 'He fought so hard.'
And they are inclined to think, about a suicide, that no fight was involved, that somebody simply gave up. This is quite wrong."

Sally Brampton, Shoot the Damn Dog: A Memoir of Depression
.
.
.
People pontificate, "Suicide is selfishness." Career churchmen like Pater go a step further and call in a cowardly assault on the living. Oafs argue this specious line for varying reason: to evade fingers of blame, to impress one's audience with one's mental fiber, to vent anger, or just because one lacks the necessary suffering to sympathize. Cowardice is nothing to do with it - suicide takes considerable courage. Japanese have the right idea. No, what's selfish is to demand another to endure an intolerable existence, just to spare families, friends, and enemies a bit of soul-searching.

David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas

I think many people kill themselves simply to stop the debate about whether they will or they won't.

And why is it your favorite quote?

"The kind and creative inmates of Earth are continuously
tortured by butchers and lunatics who are controlled by
the "Old Empire" prison operators. The so-called
"civilizations" of Earth, from the age of useless
pyramids to the age of nuclear holocaust, have been a
colossal waste of natural resources, a perverted use of
intelligence, and an overt oppression of the spiritual
essence of every single IS-BE on the planet.
If The Domain sent ships to every corner of the universe
in search of "Hell", their quest could end on Earth.
What greater brutality can be inflicted on anyone than
to erase the spiritual awareness, identity, ability,
and memory that is the essence of oneself?"

Amnesia is my biggest fear, nonexistence doesn't scare me after knowing the depths of hell. Actually I am not sure if there ever was a point in time where that state of non being ever frightened me.
