Just out of curiosity since everyone talks about painless and instant ways, I was wondering what could be the most painful and the most brutal way someone could CTB? While also not being instant and more painful.

Probably self mutilation without drugs or alcohol. Your brain stops you before you can cut where you need to in order to die, so it'd be extremely painful, messy, drawn out, likely won't even work *due to* the mutilation, but instead the complications after, like infection. That's the realistic answer in my mind…

An unrealistic one… probably feet first into a wood chipper?

Being steamed to death. Unlike burns, you would feel your skin be sloughed off and die throughout the whole process. Obviously self-immolation is also incredibly painful, but at a certain points it sears your nerves off, so you likely wouldn't feel too much in your final moments.

my guess would be being boiled alive like a lobster. Slowly, like they turn up the temperature gradually over time

Drinking a highly corrosive and volatile liquid like concentrated formic acid or 10 - 35% ammonia solution would cause a lot of pain. Electrocution is also very painful.

I've heard the same, and depending on how well you do it (what lighter fluid you use etc.) it could only be seconds.


I guess provoking a large enough wild animal like a hippo or bear would be painful

Also, quicksand.

Some mushrooms and plants can be very painful ways to die...

Living until natural death for someone who is deeply suicidal is another contender though. That's a long, slow, drawn out zombification and death... fuggin brutal.
