Can anyone give me a good phrase to write onto the letter that I will put right behind the door of the hotel room I will be dying in? Should I just put "Call the police, dead body is in the room"?
Trying to make it less traumatizing on the housekeeping staff. Thanks in advance.

I hadn't thought of that, good call. Maybe warn them not to look? Depending on how you go you'll be pretty blue and swollen, it's not pretty.

You're right, I can add that onto the piece of paper. I'll also leave behind a big tip for them. Idk, it's something at least.

I don't get why a note needs to be left at all? Put it on outside of door- maybe someone finds it before you're gone. Letting them know you're in there- what if you're not gone yet? I'm sure it's not totally uncommon for people to ctb in hotel rooms, so the trauma may not be so severe (yes it will impact the person). They'll know to call police. If it brings you comfort to leave a note then you need to do it for you. It's all about having as little anxiety and pressure on you as possible. Be well.

I worked at a hotel for two years and had coworkers find deceased people in hotel rooms. We had minors work there as well. It's not good. Put the disturb sign on the door and they're not going to enter. They will start knocking on your door once you haven't checked out yet. Only then they'll get the master key or second key to the door. It's not about lessening my anxiety, but about lessening the suffering these employees will inevitably experience.

i've heard people doing the act in the bathroom and putting a note on the door of the bathroom to keep housekeeping from seeing the body, but not alert anyone prematurely by putting the note on the outside of the door

I feel like any human that reads a note basically saying don't look is going to want to have a look. I'm going to hang myself in a hotel or apartment and I'm not doing any written warnings, my dead body will be the warning.

It is what it is. You can sugarcoat it with notes and thinking of others but you going to kill yourself in someone else's space and someone has to find you. I'd rather it be a hotel maid then my mum or someone that cares for me.

I definitely don't think anyone should put it on the outside of the door! Still- most hotels provide a chair don't they? Doesn't seem much effort to write a big note, place it on the chair and place the chair on the inside of the door- blocking the hallway/entrance.

I just think that the fewer people are impacted- the better. Maybe police officers are accustomed to finding dead bodies but I doubt a school leaver is- housekeeping jobs are usually badly paid- we really have no idea who will find us. I know it likely happens a lot in hotels but I think there are things we can do to minimize upset. Taking plastic sheeting along is also something I would do.

I'm lucky enough to be able to do it at home but I still intend to make it as less messy and less traumatic for the people (likely police) finding me as possible. I do understand that some people are in a very distressed state when CTB- so- might not be capable of a whole load of planning but I imagine someone booking a hotel and buying all the items needed to CTB has already done quite a bit of preperation. Doesn't seem much more to try and limit the impact on the staff and hotel.

I am not planning to put it on the outside of the door at all, I don't want my plan to fail. I'll just put it somewhere they will see it immediately once they open it. I appreciate all of the advice though! I will definitely take along plastic sheeting too.
