Ghost World and Welcome to the Dollhouse because the protagonists' experiences are so similar to mine growing up. They're both great feel-bad films where things don't turn around for the loser protagonists in the finish (pretty realistic imo), both of them end on a bleak note. I would say Welcome to the Dollhouse is like the anti-Little Miss Sunshine lol

I can't think of any movies like that, but there is a TV show that gets me that way... it's called Genshiken. It's a good show but it makes me wanna die because I'll never have a group of friends like that...

Not a movie, but a show called "This Is Us"

It's absolutely fucking incredible but it also reminds me of what I can never have

As OP stated - any film with an infinite time loop or paradox. I'd say that would be worst than death. Groundhog Day, Donnie Darko, The butterfly effect, The Dyatlov Pass Incident - that last one sounds like hell - I won't spoil it but the loop is ENDLESS.

The butterfly effect
Oh yeah the butterfly effect I can´t believe I forgot to mention that, I saw scrolled passed Groundhogs Day on a streaming site which made me think of making this thread. But The Butterfly Effect is such a better example it´s such an amazing movie and fills me with a feeling of existential nihilism and suicidal thoughts during and after watching it, also I gotta check the other movies out you mentioned if they are similar in any way.

Definitely these two. I have to already be in a bad place to watch either.

Also, 'The Dead Zone', 1983 messes me up. (Unrequited love.) A lot of romances upset me. 'Somewhere in Time', 1980 was so sad. As soon as things are going well, you know it's setting you up for a fall. The most recent film that made me cry profusely was 'The Whale', 2022.

Joker, the talk show scene. Pretty ranting about does anyone think about what it's like to be the other guy.

I think I would have to say any movie that is about the goodness in life and in love. I think I miss the loving parts of myself and life a litle bit to much sometimes. However. When that is said.

I think maybe Forest Gump and Titanic, but this is more about the company when watching the movies, then the movies itself. ❤️

Again how could I also forget these movies, I recently watched a lot of coming of age movies one each night movies like Stand by me, Gone Girl, The Sandlot, bridge to terabithia, Boyhood etc. and it made me so sad and suicidal because it made me miss the camaraderie I had with all my friends, all the adventures we were on and all the hopes and dreams I had for the future.

These movies are definitely on my list too I would´ve loved to have experienced stuff like that.

for me they make me sad and suicidal because I never got to go out during those years which hindered my friendships besides not being able to identify friendship (only got to go out once in all of my years in school)

so I guess I try to live through the characters on the screen through bad events and good events shown while watching those pieces of media

I remember some of the films you mentioned but haven't watched them yet

I will add them to my list, thank you for sharing those

That is well said I do the same I watch the movies and kinda live the experiences through them but it makes me so sad and suicidal inside because of course I know I never experienced.

Of the movies I mentioned Boyhood is definitely one of a kind they film it over 10 years so it´s the same actor you watch growing up in front of your eyes, Stand By Me just hit hard if you had any close friends in childhood because you the camaraderie they have and the atmosphere it just feels like being taking back in time to your childhood for a while like you said with living through the characters. Bridge of Terabithia is also just amazing it makes you feel how wonderful it was to experience the imagination a child or pre-teen could have and all the adventures the imagination led too that movie is also so amazing.
