Dangerous? Scary? Creepy?
Smart glasses have integrated cameras. Usually a light should be on when filming but there are ways around that. There are guidelines online how to circumvent that the light indicates that it films.
In my country smart glasses are a hot topic. Pick-up artists talk to women and then upload the video online, Some women were harrassed they were called sluts. However, the pick-up artist didn't ask for consent when uploading the video filming her at a swimming pool. And she wasn't aware that she was filmed when he asked her out.
Smart glasses also film the people who wear them. And sometimes it seems like the owners are not fully aware of that. European newspapers talked to staff members of companies in Kenya where the videos are used for training purposes. And the staff said they see a lot of people on the toilet, naked, when they have sex, managing their bank account etc. While seemingly not being aware that other people monitor the content.
I am not sure how to feel about that. I think there is a need for strong regulation. Personally, I thought more of using such glasses in college to cheat. Actually, I would not do that. I would not like to outsource my skills to smart glasses and be dependent on it. It feels dystopian to me. I am not the main target for predators but it could also affect me. I only rarely leave my apartment though. I would feel like a creep if I wore such glasses. Everyone who saw me would be careful around me. What a weird thought.
It is probably a dream of many people to film people in swimming baths or sauna. I avoid such places anyway. I don't like to be seen in public in underwear/swimming suits. I also don't like to see so many people who are half-naked. I could imagine people enjoy looking at the bodies of others. But I easily feel like a voyeur if I enjoyed that too much. And it makes me insecure about how I am perceived by others. At least in the case of smart glasses it sometimes seem to backfire. Sometimes even crimes were recorded by smart glasses. I wonder whether the companies that use the footage for training need to report that or not.
