My ideology is based on the fact that any entity respects the privacy and freedom of every human being, it does not matter if the state exists or not.

if you choose to enable a persistence folder you can store files on there, before which you should enable DotFiles (or something by a similar name). set a strong password to your persistence storage, which you can unlock each time when you boot TAILS.

if you're downloading the installation program for the very first time, don't forget to verify signature with PGP/GnuPG.

you can try with just following the instructions on TAILS' website though. I worked the verification thing, took me a whole week reading up on shit (the DNM Bible is a good guide into this), and like, there was just no problems with the installation program whatsoever. I think plenty of people don't really bother that much. I tend to overthink and overthink and overthink. a bad habit of mine. anxiety people's gon feel this one lol.

so yeah, the TAILS website and its FAQ prolly has everything you need. again I'm sorry you had to deal with that motherfucker when everything's already too much.
