I was actually discussing this with someone I just met the other day. She asked if I was looking for a friend or a partner.
I said my whole goal was to go from stranger to familiar stranger. If I can pull that off, acquaintance seems like it is within hailing distance. Then we'll see what happens from there. What about you?
She said yeah friends is a pipe dream isn't it? So far down the line. Yet partner could happen overnight. Funny how it works.
I think that's right. Maybe it's just me but it feels like when you're young, friends are easy to make. But in your 40s, the odds of finding a partner are way higher than finding a friend. Something shifts along the way that makes the friend hump seem like it will take forever.
