I used to be a hardcore atheist. From age 10 to age 50, I thought that after death was complete nothingness, exactly like it was 13.8 billion years before I was born.
But then my brother died. That changed everything. I could not accept that someone so precious could disappear.
So, I started researching. I needed veridical evidence of the persistence of the soul/spirit after death. Veridical means verified.
(I should say, before going on, that while I was an atheist I believed in PSI phenomena, such as remote viewing, precognition and telepathy.)

I was listening to Coast to Coast AM and someone was talking about reincarnation. I thought it was a bunch of BS. But they started to open my mind.
I watched a fascinating Youtube documentary on James Leininger, the child who was a WWII pilot in a previous life.
Then I went to the library and checked out Ian Stevenson's book Children Who Remember Previous Lives.
Pretty darn concrete evidence that our spirits reincarnate from one life to the next.

That led to research about Near Death Experiences (NDEs) and Out of Body Experiences (OBEs). The OBEs are solid evidence that the mind can separate from the body, which proves non-local consciousness. Precognition, remote viewing and telepathy also prove non-local consciousness.

So maybe if our minds/spirits are not our brains but our brains are our receivers, that could mean our spirits could persist after death.

Watch the mind boggling episodes of Psychic Investigators on Youtube.
Go to victorzammit.com to learn more about evidence of life after death.
Go to adcrf.org and read some amazing "after death communication" testimonies.

I'm starting to come around to the idea of KARMA being real. What goes around comes around. Perhaps our purpose in this life is to be better people, be kind to others, and in doing so, elevate our karma - so that in our next lives we may be better off than we are in this difficult life. This karma business may be wishful thinking, but it sure is a nice way to live. Be kind.

I don't believe in KARMA.
However if you are nice and kind, you can build repuation, form meaningful connection, network versus if you are cruel.
It is not KARMA ,though mind you

As for NDEs,it could be the brain hallucinating.IF NDEs are true and there is afterlife, then where would the space be to hold all humans?what about other animals?would afterlife exist in this universe or would it be in a different realm?
Idk but i hope it's not reincarnation
I also hope it is not reincarnation.Reincarnation sounds like torture.
Having to repeat this life over and over again ad infitum

I didn't believe in Karma nearly all of my long life. I'm now starting to question my beliefs. But it's nice to live life as if it does exist.
I know what you mean about NDEs. However there are some where the person learns something by a deceased spirit while they are having the NDE that they would not have known if they hadn't. NDEs are different than DMT experiences.

But OBEs cannot be explained by hallucinations. They are fascinating! There are even a couple of Blind NDE/OBE experiences where the person describes what they SAW with their blind eyes while they were "dead".

There are Peak in Darien experiences in which a person learns of a death of a loved one before the loved one dies. This usually happens at night as an apparition or a dream. The person who died visits their loved one, says "Hello, I love you. Have a good life! Bye", and then the person who saw the apparition finds out the next day that their loved one died the night before. Some of the people who died and visited their loved ones were in accidents. So, these events can't be dismissed by skeptics saying, "Well, the person just had a hallucination or dream. The loved one they saw was dying. It was a coincidence." Nope.

The peace of non-existence is all I could ever believe in and hope for, all I want is to be free from this terrible, torturous existence that I just always saw as a mistake that only ever tortures existing beings and no matter what I'll just always prefer to not exist, I just want all to be gone and forgotten for me in non-existence.

I just want this existence of dreadful, torturous suffering to be all erased for me, I just hope for no more pain and no more suffering, to exist will always be an abomination that just tortures existing beings and I'll always find it so deeply undesirable to exist in every way.

It's unfortunate no matter how long you think you can never know what death feels like, all you can have is ideas of it. Many people confuse the state of dying to death itself which is pretty inaccurate and makes sense why people are so afraid of it. And what's funny is even though people dread it, we still chase it constantly and that has been the case for thousands of years since humanity has existed. We dread it but yet still chase death and when it's finally time we run away from it. The truth is humanity was and never will comprehend death. The real end is the beginning and vice versa. The state of dying has nothing to do with the concept of death or atleast thats what i like to see itself as. Just accept death as it is and you'll be at peace when the time comes.

i follow what some claim to be an absurd interpretation of string theory where all life forms are segments of cosmic strings created by the conscious universe to save itself. it lines up with our runaway expansion started at the same time as life on earth developed, and as life got more complicated the expansion got faster. it is likely that this expansion itself is caused by cosmic strings, so I believe we unite with these greater strings when we die.
