I just finished reading John Dies At The End. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. It's really long but somehow didn't feel like it.

I don't know what to read next, I'm looking for suggestions. I'm open to anything really. I was considering The Hunger Games series, since I didn't read them when they first came out.

I'm currently reading Harassment Architecture by Mike Ma (I do not agree with his views) It's written from the perspective of a "ecofacist" and It's kind of fun to read because of how insane some of his views are. my favourite book ever is either earthlings by Sakaya Murata (another insane book) or The summer I died by Ryan C Thomas.

It's amazing to read what is pretty much a look inside the author's mind. Though I admit Osamu Dazai is a rabbit hole I haven't dared to jump fully down yet.
Horror artist Junji Ito also illustrated a manga version of it, which I read in my obsession lol.

I finished "The Anxious Generation" from Jonathan Haidt recently. It was really interesting, I liked it. I'm trying to find something similar now, but no luck so far

I had to read his book about attachment theory in college. It was interesting at the time I read it, and I thought it had some merit. However, I grew to hate it in the decade after college, because so many people on social media seemed to be using a cheap, 1-dimensional version of it to try to become self-help influencers. Every single issue in people's relationships could be explained away with attachment theory. It was so annoying. People are infinitely more complex & varied than just a few categories! It's a shame because I think his core ideas are still sound.

I've heard a few people recommend The Anxious Generation, I'll check it out if I come across a copy of it.

I just finished reading Grey Dog by Elliott Gish. It's a slow burn historical fiction horror sort of thing, set in a remote town in Canada in 1901 -- if you've ever seen the movie The Witch, it has a lot of similarities, both thematically and plot-wise. It was pretty good. I really enjoyed the first half, but it didn't really come together in the latter. I found it worth reading though.

I also just finished Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Abbott. It was really weird and a little dry but also very charming. Sooo much opaque Victorian social critique. A fun little romp through the imagination of a mathemetician from the late 1800s.


Semi off-topic, but what do yall use for book logging / reviews / etc.? I'm looking for somewhere to start setting up. I know of Goodreads and Storygraph; are there any others out there?

story graph is (imo) the best book logging app out there, I've been using it for around five years at this point and have had a great experience. I feel it is much more in depth than Goodreads and I love being able to give Half and quarter stars in my reviews. it's a little harder to build community on storygraph than on Goodreads because you actually have to open the community tab, but I haven't found it to be a big deal and would strongly recommend story graph. my favorite book is the great believers by Rebecca makkai, it's absolutely spectacular.

I'm workong myself through the Iliad right now. I bought a box containing it and the Odyssey years and thought that going on vacation might be the perfect opportunity to brush off the gathering dust and give them a try.
It's surprisingly engrossing, when I get going it's hard to stop. The translation seems really nice, at least it sounds properly flowery and old-timey. A really cool look into the mental world of ancient Greece.

Can't hurt me and Never Finished by David Goggins helped me to look at the life in a different perspective. I was motivated to achieve my dreams and work hard for them. But depression happened and it doesn't give two fucks about it, that's why I'm here.

I don't read books anymore, but thread made me want to start again. I kinda miss reading
