Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

This definitely feels like a trap. There have already been "researchers" who published things about this site. It's better than the busy bodies trying to shut this place down, but still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It would make sense that most people on here are left-leaning. The left is generally associated with socialism and the right is generally associated with capitalism (at least in my perspective). Many people come to this site feeling wronged by society, an unjust society, and I could understand how that feeling would make some people turn to socialism for answers. I suspect most people here would lean more with the Democratic Party than the Republican Party in the United States.

Thanks to all who weighed in, despite their misgivings. Obviously, the fact that the majority of people here aren't even from the United States makes the results of this survey almost impossible to interpret (How many respondents were Americans? How many non-Americans selected a party?), but I think it gives me one significant insight — rough as it may be — of who I'm talking to.
Typically where I live it's only those on the extreme ends of politics that care about it before engaging with a person. Personally I don't really care but if you don't like cats then we have nothing to say to each other
Yeah, I know what you mean. You have to go through five break-ups, four divorces, three suicide attempts and two existential crises to even begin to understand his movies.
I can't say I'm a fan. I don't think you can be a fan of his art, any more than you can be a fan of Kierkegaard. Bergman is frightening. He has seen farther and deeper than most of us have, so he shows us life in a light that we are not ready to accept. It's too dark, too complicated, too strenuous, too much filled with anxiety.
Woody Allen is more palatable. I think of him as a sort of Ingmar Bergman gone to Hollywood. I am a fan of Woody Allen.
Well I haven't been through all that and I'm not sure Bergman has seen more than we have, but in a certain mood I dig his movies all the same. I don't see anything wrong with being a fan or being a fan of Kirkegaard.
Funny you mention that about Allen; when Bergman died Allen said pretty much that in an op ed; that he was ripping off Bergman. Allen is great.
Hence, the current state of society. But both are simply a brand to appeal to their demographic. Like when you own a company and create different brands at various financial (or other) tiers to corner as much of the market as possible. They do compete with each other, but ultimately you take home the profits from both.
If you'd like to remain happy, or at least not get more depressed than you already are, avoid looking too closely behind the political curtains.
When you live in the US, that's more of a theory than actual reality. I mean, I've been to some, and spent time in the army on the East German border, but even there our most popular toast was "To the World". The 'world' in question being the United States.
Anyway, when the elves who've captured every element of control in the US finally pop this ridiculous bubble we're in, we're all going to be in for some pretty exciting times.
