There was one such case. A person from one country (let it be Bahamas) decided to CTB. When their parents started checking their devices, they were empty to the root. Even cyber-cops could not do anything. This website did not exist then, but they probably found real good stuff before clean-up.

I don't see the US ever becoming like Belgium and the Netherlands where people with severe mental conditions are allowed to die with dignity for decades. Right now this debate is happening in Canada however and I hope it's allowed.

It doesn't look like the site has had any reply to this story as yet. My old paper never would have run a story without offering the accused the right of reply. Never.
Maybe it is yet to come but as far as I can see the story is out there.
I've seen this too many times when working for the media. Once the story is out the truth often becomes irrelevant. It who gets the coverage that counts.

This forum is getting all this negative press due to inappropriate and vicious comments made by a small group of our members in another thread.

I DO NOT believe that SS is responsible for Shawn's death or that she was encouraged to commit suicide. I doubt that there ultimately will be legal consequences or that this site will be shut down.

That being said, the behavior of some of our members in recent days has been absolutely callous. Fighting for our forum is one thing, but ridiculing and terrorizing Shawn's grieving parents? Posting memes calling them "shit parents" and blaming them for Shawn's decision? Mocking their physical appearance? Making fun of the lack of donations to their GoFundMe account and equating it to a lack of care for Shawn?

There were so many low blows that were absolutely uncalled for. Instead of backing off, these members are now doubling down on the insults and atrocious behavior. This forum as a whole isn't evil, but there sure are some evil members. I understand many of us are broken (myself included), but dammit, don't you have one ounce of human decency left?

Are you referring to recent posts outside of this thread? Could you provide links, please and thank you, so that we can assess them for ourselves?

I did participate in some threads about the parents' behaviour last year, and I was one of the ones they singled out to jeer at on the mother's FB page. I hadn't said anything deliberately disrespectful, unless trying to get them to see that throwing blame around for the lady's own choices was not going to help them move forward.

It's really regretable the media don't leave them alone.

I think tone of thread (which was bad like you say) have changed significantly , and members showed much understanding to family grief.

Many members were recently disheartened by the aggressive tone here, due to recent media and public attacks, and even wanted to leave this place.

We had a serious ongoing shit storm with BBC, Facebook, and this article.

This had created a vicious circle , and overall made people anxious, hurt, wary and on edge ; feel unwelcomed here , silenced by the world, highly suspicious of new members, etc.

I'm glad that we have regained some compassion, and I hope trust in this place will be restored.

We're are not a target, we're are people in need, those in pain that suffer everyday, same as Shawn Shatto. If her mother does not understand us, then how she could understand her daughter?

This makes me so angry I cant even begin to explain. Maybe she should look inwards and try and reconcile that her daughter wanted to cbt. It has NOTHING to do with this site. I wanted to cbt as well I signed up here and have made a couple friends I no longer want to cbt I am here to help people if and when needed I will do all i can to help. Sometimes all we want is a shoulder to cry on and maybe for awhile that helps even if just a few moments. I don't believe we encourage suicide at all if anything we want what's best for everyone and sometimes people have just made up their minds and that's the end of it. We are all human and we all make our own decision whether they are good or bad . She needs to stop blaming others.
