I do send my condolences to them. But I wasn't involved in her death and others can agree. Most members die within a few weeks or months after making an account. So who are they really holding accountable? Also most of these methods are common knowledge and you can learn them on Wikipedia for goodness sake. There is really nothing they can say or do to shut this website down.

"YORK HAVEN, Pa. (WHTM) — A York County family's grief is being made worse by a suicide website.

The site hosts discussions about suicide methods and reasons and provided 25-year-old Shawn Shatto with a poison recipe to end her life.

Now, they're featuring her as a "success story."

Shawn died by suicide on May 22, 2019. Months of grieving have done nothing to chip away at the grief of her mother, Jackie Bieber.

"I never thought I'd be singing happy birthday to my girl at her grave site," Jackie Bieber said.

She talks to her daughter a lot, and her daughter is talked about a lot.

"It's like they're not human beings that have families that see this," Jackie said. "They treat it like a success story," said Chip Bieber, Shawn's stepfather.

The website is using Shawn's story as a testimonial, detailing how she died, while taking jabs at the Biebers, York County Coroner Pam Gay and Rep. Dawn Keefer, (R-York, Cumberland counties) who introduced Shawn's Law last fall.

"The site is abhorrent that they do what they do, and then celebrate it, and not only that, they're antagonistic to the families that are suffering," Keefer said.

Shawn's Law would increase penalties on those who aid or encourage suicide. It will be debated in April and has bipartisan support.

"Those people don't want to end their life. They just want to end their pain, because I know she would never want to leave us," Bieber said.

The Biebers are tormented by a daughter's death and site members who mock their appearance, parenting and advocacy for mental health.

"She was almost too fragile for this world. She really was. She would never want people to be doing this to us," Jackie Bieber said.

The Biebers can't and wont look away from the site. They continue to monitor it, hoping one day it will be shut down.

"I'm using every bit of strength I have just to do this every day, and I will for the rest of my life," Jackie Bieber said."

The last thing on my mind after Stan CTB would be to go on tv to discuss his death.

If a person cared about their loved one, wouldn't they be grieving so much that they would not be able to speak? I couldn't.

Many people find anger in grief. I did. It's a very powerful force. People with this sort of anger never give up and never go away.

OMG after reading that story my eyes just rolled all the way to the back of my head, out the backdoor, took a cab to the ocean and jumped off a cliff. So this noble Bieber family is actually reading this site every day? Really? How do they not f*ing get it by now then? This site is a lifesaver for so many! There is absolutely nowhere I can go for support like I receive from the members here. Yes we discuss the most peaceful way to end our lives. So they want us to suffer? They'd rather their loved one have no resources and end up dying a painful death? There's so much wrong with that story, who writes this trash anyway?

but that was the most stupid thing I've read for a while. I'll admit, when I first heard about this site I thought it would be encouraging and glamorising. But if people actually took time to realise the amount of support that goes on here, I have not seen one person encourage another person to CTB. People here accept what they cannot change and make people feel heard, something society doesn't do. Society should do what this site does, and that is the problem, not the site

From my perspective, Marquis has been interviewed by BuzzFeed for a different topic, he's not unknown. The SS site owners are not unreachable if news organizations reach out, and they can themselves reach out to news organizations. Marquis even recently said on this site in his Samaritans post that if we are under threat he will fight, to the point of giving up his anonymity.

That terminology was not perfect , I changed it to "fatal" rather than "success" . When it comes to life we should be deadly serious (ah pun) .

The SS site owners are not unreachable if news organizations reach out, and they can themselves reach out to news organizations. Marquis even recently said on this site in his Samaritans post that if we are under threat he will fight, to the point of giving up his anonymity.

And I would join him and give up mine. Even though I am easy to find since I openly have said I am a 9/11 First Responder who testified in front of Congress.

A news reporter actually did call me to talk about my husbands ctb death. I refused. My husband is precious to me. I did not want the details of his death discussed on television. Nor was I in any shape to be interviewed.

It is journalistic ethics to contact the subject of a story for their right to reply. It doesn't always happen. In this instance the truth becomes irrelevant. The passion of consensus takes over. When this happens, ignorance wins every time.

It doesn't look like the site has had any reply to this story as yet. My old paper never would have run a story without offering the accused the right of reply. Never.
Maybe it is yet to come but as far as I can see the story is out there.
I've seen this too many times when working for the media. Once the story is out the truth often becomes irrelevant. It who gets the coverage that counts.
