No matter how much people like to say we're different from animals, we're a community, the reality is, those who are sick or hurt get left behind.
Sometimes they get sort of dragged along, barely kept alive, but kept away from everyone else, they get pushed out from society, denied a normal life and sometimes even pushed to die.
Just think about how you were raised, what you were teached by your family, society, educational institutions.
Not once did I learn about disabling illnesses that might happen to any of us, especially not mental ones, about the unfortunate fates that some have to deal with, the kind of abuse that exists, people that are different from the norm, nothing.
It was always "pretend they don't exist".
We got teached to not interact with homeless people, with sick people, with people different from the norm.
The only exception is when it comes to elderly people and physically disabled people too I guess,.. why only them? I have no clue.
There's talk about making things more accessible for elderly or disabled people, at the same time they use hostile architechture to make life even worse for homeless people.
The difference in my eyes is only that the first group usually has support, a family, caretakers, etc. The rest is getting abandoned and society pretends they don't exist.
How can people be so cruel?
In the end, the only one that's ever gonna help us are we ourselves, and if we are very lucky we might happen upon one of the few good souls still out there, but that's such a small chance we can't rely on that.
So what if we can't help ourselves anymore?
Well.. that's probably why most of us are here..
