I heard it's peaceful. I heard it takes about 10 days. Thoughts on the method?

All methods are painful, but this one is slow and painful. It would go much quicker if you're a sick elderly person, but even then it's painful. I know one person (he wasn't trying to CTB) who forgot to take liquids often and he urinated blood.

It's a bad idea. It's a very slow and painful death, and you will need to avoid medical help during that time. SI will almost surely kick in.

At some point, fatigue, confusion, dehydration, and weakness and PAIN will force you to drink/eat.

So... I just recently went about five weeks with no food. Technically, in the middle of those 5 weeks I had 3 packs of Ramen to eat... but essentially no food for 5 weeks. I didn't even feel hungry. I am overweight, and lost nearly 50 lbs during that time.

Meanwhile, for the last 2 weeks of those five starving weeks... I had 5 days of no water at all, followed by a little over a week of limited water (maybe a couple of cups a day).

I got to the point at the "end" there where I started passing out sitting in my chair. I ended up in the hospital and on IV for a few days and I probably gained back nearly 10 lbs of fluid that my body needed and then started to feel almost normal again.

So... I didn't feel as bad as I've read some feel... but I lasted WAY longer than I'd read anyone ever lasting without food or water. So 10 days seems unlikely... unless its 10 days without water... then maybe... and also, you have to be really skinny for lack of food to get to you that quickly.

Wow. What a story. The food thing seems absolutely plausible and sort of normal considering you describe yourself as overweight. When it comes to water 5 days is a long time but also not unfeasible. It depends a lot on your condition, though.

Starving from lack of food is in my view essentially impossible because of the time involved. Dying of thirst may be sort of realistic. But a couple of cups per day is a lot. Really way too much. One would need to completely stop consuming water. Then 7-15 days is a realistic timeframe I think.

Out of curiosity:
How did you end up in hospital? Did you call emergency services?

I'm very ill and have researched VSED it is painful. I have severe gastroparesis so I don't get hungry it hurts to eat a tiny bit even sip water. A very ill older woman had family support and hospice medical support and pain meds and it still took 42 days for her to go. Starvation takes a long time and the body will consume fat, muscle, all vitamins, minerals, you will be very sick, in pain, can't do anything but alive. Dehydration is very painful and takes a long time but the smallest amount of water keeps you alive, your body will use it from your tissue. You need to have no food or fluid for at least a few days even when older and sick. Some claim it looks peaceful and painless but that is more likely they are just sedated and given a lot of pain meds. I think if you could get a good hospice to help but many can't sadly.

I ended up calling for an ambulance the day after I started passing out. Sometimes now I wish I had tried to stick it out a little longer in case it would have worked. Two cups (16 ounces) of water is not nearly enough water. I mean, it is more than nothing obviously... but I was still losing water at that rate.

You've been a member for a year, but never read the stickied threads (the first thing every member should read)… why?

Since VSED is not a method, but rather a non-method, it's in the non-methods that should not be attempted megathread, linked below.

Additionally, a quick online search would have revealed that it isn't peaceful & definitely takes more than 10 days… with so much info right at our fingertips, we should be taking advantage of it.

Yes, I have tried this method and only lasted about 4 days. The headache from being dehydrated got to much and I couldn't continue. There is only 1 person I am aware of who somewhat died this way and it was someone with cancer. Her and her family made the conscious choice no food or water. But she was given palliative meds and was gone around day 14.
