I kind of hate the oversized swords in FF. The Buster Sword and even Masamune are just obnoxiously large. One of my fav swords is Virgil's Yamato from DMC:

I don't think it's worth it, weight aside, you would have to modify it to such an extent it would be unrecognizable, starting with that cylindrical grip and filling those holes at the very blade's beginning, of course, assuming you want to turn it into something usable by normal humans and not beings imbued in Mako.
