I have tried, I was still scared, just sleepier. Maybe a higher dose could help, but I doubt SI can be easily fooled as long as you're aware what you're doing.
I don't know the answer to your question, but in general IMO it might be useful to think of SI as a functional set of multifarious responses to the apparent risk of suicide rather than a unitary "instinct." I am still working out what this entails for reducing it though. That will require more research, hypothesizing, and experimentation on my part.
