Feel free to post some uplifting quotes or anecdotes. Here's some of mine:

Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today. -Jordan Peterson

Authenticity in your interactions is about expressing your truth and owning that truth. -Gary Bishop

It seems like our instant gratification society has lost touch with the realities of life and, the simple truth is that life is meant to be lived and experienced. -Ken Shamrock

"What sustains relationships over time is a regular rhythm of seeing each other, it's best to build a regular pattern of activities rather than having to make a special effort to see one another."~Dr. Schwartz

I'm not sure if these are 'helpful', but...

We can't solve our problems by using the same attitudes that created them in the first place.

A patient heart that listens is rarer than a clever mind that speaks.

It's often more helpful to be kind than it is to be right.

Knowledge is knowing what to say. Wisdom is understanding whether or not to say it.

And this from an SS member. Please forgive me, but I can't remember who, I didn't make a note:

"Don't bother walking a mile in my shoes. That would be boring. Spend thirty seconds in my head. That'll freak you right out."

If you dont like your boss at work, look at him or her through an upside down fork and it will look like they are in jail.
I recognise that, so I do :hihi:

Love it. What about this one?
Run your idea up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes...

I had a manager at work who used to say stuff like that, and not ironically. I was forever suggesting running ideas up his backburner, but he never seemed to realise I was taking the piss.

A Good Day
by Kait Rokowski

Yesterday, I spent 60 dollars on groceries,
took the bus home,
carried both bags with two good arms back to my studio apartment
and cooked myself dinner.
You and I may have different definitions of a good day.
This week, I paid my rent and my credit card bill,
worked 60 hours between my two jobs,
only saw the sun on my cigarette breaks
and slept like a rock.
Flossed in the morning,
locked my door,
and remembered to buy eggs.
My mother is proud of me.
It is not the kind of pride she brags about at the golf course.
She doesn't combat topics like, "My daughter got into Yale"
with, "Oh yeah, my daughter remembered to buy eggs"
But she is proud.
See, she remembers what came before this.
The weeks where I forgot how to use my muscles,
how I would stay as silent as a thick fog for weeks.
She thought each phone call from an unknown number was the notice of my suicide.
These were the bad days.
My life was a gift that I wanted to return.
My head was a house of leaking faucets and burnt-out lightbulbs.
Depression, is a good lover.
So attentive; has this innate way of making everything about you.
And it is easy to forget that your bedroom is not the world,
That the dark shadows your pain casts is not mood-lighting.
It is easier to stay in this abusive relationship than fix the problems it has created.
Today, I slept in until 10,
cleaned every dish I own,
fought with the bank,
took care of paperwork.
You and I might have different definitions of adulthood.
I don't work for salary, I didn't graduate from college,
but I don't speak for others anymore,
and I don't regret anything I can't genuinely apologize for.
And my mother is proud of me.
I burned down a house of depression,
I painted over murals of greyscale,
and it was hard to rewrite my life into one I wanted to live
But today, I want to live.
I didn't salivate over sharp knives,
or envy the boy who tossed himself off the Brooklyn bridge.
I just cleaned my bathroom,
did the laundry,
called my brother.
Told him, "it was a good day."

"Some people believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love."

I have a text file with quotes that I've collected over the years. Every so often I go through the file, reflect on the words and come to new conclusions every time. Here are a few of what I have in English:

"Everything you want is right outside of your comfort zone."

"A young outcast will often feel that there is something wrong with himself, but as he gets older, grows more confident in who he is, he will adapt, he will begin to feel that there is something wrong with everyone else."

"Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is a nobler art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of nonessentials."

"Luxury lies not in the richness of things, but in the absence of vulgarity."

"Grieve not that men do not know you; grieve that you do not know men."

"Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you."

"A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."

"The man who persists in knocking will succeed in entering."

"Whenever feeling downcast, each person should vitally remember, "For my sake, the entire world was created."

"We are great and our faults are great and therefore our problems great and great are our consolations."

"Even in the grave, all is not lost."

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

-William Ernest Henley

I simply love the poem about the painful landscape that we carry within our hearts ❤️ Thank you for the treat!
Will keep it coming then!

I have a collection :smiling:
To find Fernando Pessoa uplifting, you must be a strange soul.

I'm sorry if this was not an appropriate thread for this, I will look for one that is, or create my own.

I said "not necessarily uplifting", in my defense.

But I do think sadness can be beautiful and poetic. I do. Under a certain light, sadness gains a certain dignity.

Also I think it's good to get in touch with your shadow. Even if it destroys you. At least you won't be a bullshit person.

You know, keeping it real. That's kind of uplifting. And you don't take the risk of being lied to.

False comfort is not uplifting at all.
