Help Tourinquet method with scarf

I'm experimenting with the tourniquet method (no plans to ctb in the near future FOR NOW)

Should I just take 2 scarves, tie them together in a reef knot and slowly cut them so they are short enough to have a width of 3 fingers. In case your confused, im following this:



Advice would be much appreciated. I could always go to the store and buy the thing recommended though. Just curious and want to take it slow. I still have a few things I want to do before I ctb.
