I guess I just wanted to vent about a failed attempt I had. I don't want to spread FUD about this method because clearly it is quite effective, accessible and simple, at least compared to many others. Unfortunately, because of what I experienced in my failed attempt, I fear that I might even have a bit of PTSD associated to hanging in general, which means that my SI would be through the roof in any future attempt.
So, this was my experience. I nailed the "falling unconscious" part because I didn't even realize it. I just felt my arms tingling and then go numb just as I was starting to feel really relaxed. So far so good. It did not even take 5 seconds. But what followed was esentially the worst sleep paralysis nightmare I had ever had. I felt like my body was spinning and like I was "drowning" or sinking into some void. I tried to escape this void, but my body would just hurt and didn't move, sleep paralysis style. This lasted for a few seconds until I started to wake up and heard myself shreaking in the most guttural, "animalistic" way imaginable. (Now I understand why not having anyone around is so important for this method). Of course, I then realized what was going on yet my heart was still beating like crazy.
Now everytime I see a rope or think about the feeling of getting strangled I start to feel sick. It was one of the worst experiences. The only silver lining is that I did not get any "exploding head" feeling or asphyxia. I just passed out.
