Did you read these relates here on SaSu? That's so scary... I wanted to make a goodbye thread in the future when my time comes, but now I'm afraid some pro-lifers tracking me trough my IP adress and calling cups

this is the first time i read something like that happening here, the ones before was in a communities with similar talking points (suicide, mental health), it's scary but kinda predictable that would happen with someone.
i would make a delayed goodbye thread to make sure i'm not interrupted, it's the best option.

Shoot. The internet is so weird; unlike real life interaction, there is no transitoriness to what we do. It's not right; you release something for a minute and there is the potential for an untold number of copies to exist indefinitely. It really messes with our innate need to share, in how things are limited to that time and space. Ugh.
Sorry for how this all turned out. Especially how you'll have to "keep quiet" in such hard times. I hope things look up for you, in one way or another, as soon as possible

There's a few reasons it likely happened -
1. (Major) I doxxed myself by showing an article in chat of when I went missing (members helped summon a mod to delete the post after 5 minutes or so)
2. My ex might know about my account here as I've posted in the past while still in the relationship (could be lowkey monitoring this account)
3. I asked @rainwillneverstop if they called but they said no, also they didnt have my number as we called over discord anyhow. So that one is phased out.

To ease everyone's stress about posting their plans here, it's highly highly likely due to me being an idiot with doxing myself for that 5 minutes yesterday. Someone with ill intentions likely followed my posts after the fact and saw this one, then calling the cops.

The cops showed up to my place of residence first. Then they started calling my phone to find out my location.

Because of my info now being out there and probably even kept by someone, I can't trust anyone and I don't think I can have the comfort of chatting with someone before I go because of it being too risky from this point forward. Or even making a goodbye post on here. This will be considered my "faux goodbye thread" by being the last one I'll actually be able to make.

I'm sorry guys. But, rest assured it was mainly due to my own naiveness.

If you use discord or skype with someone on here, I recommend using a VPN during the voice chats. It is pretty easy to get someones IP address from a voice call. I'd always use my VPN when calling anyone on here on any other platforms.

there was definitely someone on chat who reported it.
This is more than just an IP, an IP will just give your general location - not exact. Police would require a warrant and then ask the ISP for which address is registered to X IP. Too time consuming to do in such case.

I'm so sorry this happened, and I'm sorry for the rat who found this necessary to do.

Next time don't take your phone with you. If you must, don't answer to unknown numbers.
