My psychiatrist knows I want to ctb. I'm bipolar and am going through a severe depression right now. I told my psychiatrist I wanted to voluntarily commit myself. She said a better idea might be to try going to a ketamine clinic. She said ketamine IV treatments have really worked well for people who have drug resistant depression or are suicidal. This is one of the reasons I like my psychiatrist, she gives me options.

Has anyone here used ketamine treatments? Has it helped?

Hi @Apathy's Girl. May I suggest you edit your thread title to include "ketamine treatment" so you can get some assistance? Good luck! :)

Edit: Sorry, I mis-read the date as being yesterday, so looked like you weren't being seen. Just trying to help. Hope that's ok. ❤

My psych does ketamine treatments in his office.

I don't know much about it, but I do trust him and he is always on the cutting edge, so I'd say it's worth learning more about.

My psychiatrist tried it on me for six weeks with little to no improvement. It may work for some, but it didn't work for me. Since then my psychiatrist has tried some new meds and is talking about trying rTNS (transcranial nerve stimulation).

If you have the option to try ketamine / Esketamine (nasal spray), go for it. I've been researching myself but since it is only newly approved by government in my location, it's been hard to find provider. If it's effect resemble approx that of psilocybin / shrooms, it can provide therapeutic effects, especially if you have not been exposed to other ethogenic compounds prior. Another barrier is the cost, it's either not covered by insurance in a lot of instances or absurdly expensive.

Treatment-resistant MDD is a beast, a devastating one for some…

Excuse my ignorance and necro-posting but I thought ketamine is a controlled Class A drug?

I have a friend that swears by his 6 infusions of ketamine. It seems really expensive if I can't get it covered, but maybe I'll try to work towards it. Couldn't be as useless as SSRIs are for me

I want to try ketamine infusions so badly. Had it in a sedative cocktail for wisdom tooth extraction, and despite the healing, the week following was pretty nice, from what I remember.

Also ayeeee, this is my first post after lurking on guest mode for literally three years.

Ketamine therapy is in very early stages right now.

I have been reading up on it and it seems (like rTMS or ECT) the success rate is about 50%. For some people it works and for some it doesn't.

Costs are significant ($3-5k for a 6 round treatment) unless you have private insurance that approves coverage OR participate in a medical trial.

Because it's fairly new we don't know yet how long effects last. You might improve for a few months or even a year, but you may have to repeat "maintenance treatment" sooner.

There are also some logistical issues accessing this as you can't drive yourself to/from treatment and need a support person to take you home.
side effects the day of the treatment can last 4-24 hrs, so you shouldn't be driving for that timeframe, may need support for other tasks.

It's a mixed bag for me and I may try it if it's covered by my insurance and the logistics can be worked out. Otherwise not.
