taking a bath with a toaster/hairdryer is a very popular method but for some reason i haven't seen it discussed here. i assume it's not very reliable but i felt like asking anyway. sorry if i missed some threads about this

what i wanted to ask is:
- is it effective?
- does it hurt?
- how long does it take to reach unconsciousness?

sorry if this is stupid — don't have any other method to consider!

not effective. it's only really popular in looney toons.

I don't think this would be that reliable. I have been shocked by 230V many times and I'm still here. First you would need to find an outlet that is not protected by GFCI (GFCI is a device designed to prevent this). In Europe even old houses often have almost all outlets protected by GFCI.
Then there is the issue how you connect the tub to the outlet. I don't think something like "toaster bath" would work. You would have to split a cord in half and connect live to one side and neutral to the other side.

Also you would need to check how conductive the water is. If not enough you would not die, if too much it will trip the breaker (or something catches on fire).

Also it's possible that you will drown instead, which is not that nice.

not effective. new toasters are too safe to kill anybody. it's only really popular in looney toons.

It's not the toaster that's safer It's that outlets now trip when there's too much power running through them.

This came into my head last night when I was in the bath. A quick search elsewhere made it seem like a good option, so I'll take a look at the threads

I don't think it's reliable. The current may decide not to go through your body but through the water instead. Electrocution is a non-method according to my research.
If you're at all technically able you can circumvent the trips. Just gotta do a little snippety-snip and a connecterydoo in ye ole switchbox.
You're also risking a fire then... 🔥
