Yeah they aren't very good, read a story of a guy that was about to commit suicide but ended up not doing it because the hotline didn't pick up which he found really funny. Still fucked none the less

I wouldn't take it personally. Just issues with the phone system. It doesn't mean anything, as far as the hanging up is concerned. Try not to read more into it than it really is.

It is just hard. This is the first time I have called them because I was always too scared to. You're right that it is probably just an issue with their system, it just still hurts.

It seems like you're reaching out for help, and there's nothing wrong with that, if that is what you want. What I would do if I were in your shoes is call them back, and the first thing out of my mouth would be to pitch a major bitch at them telling them how the F could you hang up on someone who called you because they're suicidal - that kind of rant. I'd go off on them to make sure the point got across to them. I wouldn't parse my words. I'd let it all out. Then after I said my peace, I'd give them another shot to see if the have any real help they can offer. That's just me, though.

I can imagine it definitely hurts I'm sorry that happened to you, especially on your first call, it must have taken a lot of courage and trust to call them up. I feel bad sometimes even when customer service just hangs up.

I would agree with @locked*n*loaded thaf it really wasn't personal. These people are woefully under trained, they probably pressed the wrong button by mistake.

Also please don't take what they say to you personally either when u do get through. Again these people are just people, they are not professionals, they are woefully under trained, they are only really allowed a bit of time to talk to you about your feelings and try to direct you in the right direction to get help because they are so woefully undertrained. These are just people, some of them are studying psychology, some and someone close to them ctb, they don't really know what to say most of the time but I think they do really want to help otherwise they wouldn't do a volunteer job like that, so I think they will do their best to listen to you, but there's a variety of quality unfortunately some are better than others. So if they something triggering and hurt you don't take it personally.

I probably wouldn't give them a earful for hanging up, maybe just let them know it happened and reflect it up the management chain, because the new person you get wouldn't be the person that hung up on you.

If you do talk to them be careful what you say. They can track you down and send the police.

Have never had any help with them. Was nervous to reach out for the first time for this exact reason. Tried texting when I was in a crisis and the person that answered sounded like a bot and wasn't helpful at all

It is a possibility that they may hang up on you to avoid dealing with the situation or due to their lack of necessary skills, however, I find it to be unlikely. I believe it is more likely that there was a misunderstanding, accidental disconnection, or some technical issue that led to the call being hung up.

I myself have not called such a hotline and do not have any interest in hearing their scripts. Based on the posts and threads I have seen on this forum, it appears to be a more suitable place for discussing CTB and CTB related topics than relying on those kinds of hotlines.

I just think that suicide hotlines sound useless anyway and I see it as being insensitive how they are pushed as a solution, to me empty and hollow words cannot take away the fact that this reality is so dreadful and filled with endless suffering. But I'm not surprised they did that, to me I guess it's better than them calling the police, I've read of that happening before as sadly we exist in a world where suicidal people end up being punished simply for wanting to die.
