Older generations had a lot more freedom. Technology hadn't yet developed to the point where all of our activities, thoughts, actions, behaviors were tracked through mobile phones, cctv, microphones, computers, etc. not only that, but the legal system back then seemed far less punitive. Back then, it seemed like the only people who ended up in jail/prison were the people who really deserved to be there. Ofc innocent people were sometimes wrongly convicted, but that's inevitable to a certain extent. Now you have a for profit prison system whose goal is to over-incarcerate individuals. Not only this, but politicians now use the law as a means to appeal to emotion and seize power through voting. The end result is a world where everything is starting to become a crime. You now see the rise in "hate speech" laws that limit what you can and can't say. Another example is this new law in the United States where drug dealers who deal drugs that result in a fentanyl overdose are being charged with murder. It appears to me that people and politicians are using the law to tackle symptoms of the problem, rather than addressing the underlying problem. Many problems are starting to emerge in the modern world as a consequences of societal decay and the abandonment of cultural integrity. The end result is a collapse which we try to remedy through the legal system. Of course, this is nothing more than a band aid, and doesn't address the root causes of these problems. The end result is a overly puritanical society where people live in fear and the emergence of a police state that bullies its citizens. Generally speaking, the less laws your nation/society has on the books, the better.

In the country where I live, smoking weed legally in a foreign country is illegal, and they can drug test you on your return trip

In America, wrongful imprisonment has been occurring en masse since at least the Civil Rights era. Then Reagan fabricated the 'War on Drugs' to make sure it continued.

Edit: he didn't create it but he expanded it and took it to another level.

Freedom has always been just an illusion. An idea spread by the ruling class to make us believe we can have more say in what going on than we actually do. We are all slaves to society one way or another. We don't own anything. Even things we paid for fully. The government can come confiscate it at a moments notice.

Society has stripped us of all our basic functions. Think about it, we can't even feed ourselves. The most basic aspect of life in any organism on this planet. How many of us would be screwed if we suddenly stopped having supermarkets to get food from or restaurants to get takeout from? That we gotta have a job and work most of our day to have access to? So few people now know how to hunt, fish, grow crops, pick berries etc. even then their is cost associated with that. No country is truly free. Nothing is free. Everything is bought and paid for.

The 'tough on crime' stance has always been about an appeal to emotion rather than a fact-based solution. Assigning an outgroup a simplistic demonic image and then attacking them is proven to be counterproductive (eg. the Treaty of Versailles and the ruin of the German economy). Yet we keep making the same mistake because people vote based on emotion and tribalism more than rationality. The result has been a growing sense of dysfunction, which is a breeding ground for manipulative psychopaths who thrive on chaos.

Absolutely. These people are evil in every sense of the word. People really need to wake up and realize that we cant just sit around and wait for elections to try to vote the problems away anymore. Things are becoming very dire and we are all preoccupied by fighting amongst ourselves and falling for all the other distractions of every day life. If only everyone could unite and fight back against these elitist wef pieces of garbage
