I really can't think of a possible reality or outcome that will make me get better. And yet I go to therapy 2 times a week. Everytime I hope for a "magical" breakthrough then get frustrated and extremely sad — is there even a way for me to get better? I don't think so. Accept the new normal.

therapy might work for some but in my opinion. Therapy is often just a way to trick money from people by promising treatment in the long run. Pretty confident that there is no "magical cure" think the closest would be medication but then you might just become a "zombie" instead but then what's the point?

I have ptsd and also used to go to therapy but stopped going. because i never got anything of actual value. Most of the time they just wanted to practise breathing exercises or anxiety management. But not that it ever worked for anything. If anything i felt worse and more hopeless everytime i left. So for me at least it is like you say just accept the new normal

I don't know what your circumstances are but I feel like therapy only really works if your problems are purely mental, which is rare. Most of what we perceive as mental problems are caused by adverse material circumstances. Even if they can be changed, that's out of a therapist's wheelhouse.

Therapy is also a waste of time for me, in general. It did not help when I was in crisis, it does not help now.
My problem is the fact that my psychologist seems to assume I know and understand a lot less than I actually do, and thus we end up having pointless conversations that don't teach me anything new or challenge me.

Had therapy for 2 decades and look at the mess I am. Frankly they made it worse. Its a buisness model after all. They want to get their paychecks wouldn't put all my eggs in theire baskets. Often it is weapozided "you are unhappy because your sick" its the patient wrong going. Not the system that mskes poeple hopeless and diseases .good al therapy.

I've literally never gotten anything out of therapy. they just talk to me like an idiot and then get mad at me when talking to me like an idiot doesn't do anything, or laugh at me for an attempt, that happened once.

Really? I have the opposite opinion, I think it's easier when it's cause and effect cuz those are what they can fix. They can find ways to cope with issues, but if it's purely mental and pills doesn't work then it's harder for them to understand that because there isn't an environment behind it.

therapy is just a pain in the ass for anyone who had to be in it. until recently i had to go to IOP 3x a week where all the therapist did was call my thoughts "irrational" and "attention-seeking". hell, i even got dog-piled by the other folks in the program for trying to challenge her bullshit. was a miserable shithole just like how school was back then.

i never even asked to be in IOP, anyways. i only had to go as a follow-up to my inpatient stay from that same hospital.

You have unrealistic expectations for therapy. Therapy is not about making big breakthroughs or having the one good session that fixes everything. Therapy is an ongoing process of learning how to better live with your situation. It does not make you "better" it makes you better ta handling whatever you are going through.

I know. I've been on therapy for 4 years now, but I recently changed my therapist. The thing is that one month later I got a major depressive crisis and I haven't been able to get any better (they would go away in 2 weeks before that). I've never expected therapy to magically fix everything, but I can't live anymore.

There's only so much a therapist can do. If someone is poor or has chronic health problems for example there's really nothing that can be done. "Coping" with stuff like that is a losing game. From my own experience, every therapist I've had has just tried to convince me that my material problems didn't exist.

ב''ה,

I'm on here a lot saying that therapy is simply an employment agency with extra steps, but once you realize this you can get on with the bullshit 'living' is instead of the bullshit of pretending making a therapist rich (as does not occur without repeat customers) does anything.

A strange but possibly helpful adjunct to this is that, if no one in 'real life' wants to hear your problems or they are 'unspeakable' in whatever company you keep, then they effectively do not exist or are unspeakable. Nobody cares so being obligated to care yourself is just wasting time. You could at least rent a dom sex worker of your choice and be getting laid for the same expense and psychic submission as therapy.

financial problems, health problems, being discriminated against are some generic examples.
