ok i just took a very nonscientific sample:

Out of maybe 40-50 threads with the most recent posting activity, ~5-7 of those threads have over 30 pages of comments.

Out of those 5-7, all but TWO of them are Resource Megathreads. One of the remaining two is the Stan thread, with about 40 pages of comments.

THIS thread has 302 pages of posts as of writing, and will probably break 310 by evening....

Edit: Just checked again. The only two other threads i saw that come CLOSE to this thread in page count were both made more than a year ago (one of them in 2018....), and they are games threads.

Kitchen sink was made what....33 days ago? :O

That's pretty interesting. Do you have a sense of the kinds of things you feel like you can't relate to them about?

I also have similar feelings but i'm curious what yours are.
As @Jean4 & @Carina both said, I think a lot of them are fake. I'm seeing threads about how people are going to inject themselves with dirt and all this other crap in order to ctb. Give me a break?!

And then there are some that I see that have only been here for a week and then they suddenly announce that they've received their SN and they're posting a goodbye thread. I've never heard of anyone receiving it that quickly. It took me almost a month to get mine.

Then there's a third group of people that keep asking all sorts of stupid and/or easily answered questions about SN that they could find on their own if they would just read Stan's guide and all the other guides on here. And I realize the guides are hard to read and they're full of lots of stuff that makes them all cluttered up, but if the rest of us had to do it, I don't see why they shouldn't have to as well. If I can find my way through those threads then anybody can because I have brain fog and can't think right half the time. Some of these people want you to give them step-by-step instructions on exactly how to do it and they want you to hold their hand the entire way.

To me that's too much. They're basically asking you to help them ctb. I'm not here to help anybody else ctb. I'll be glad to give them general information or point them in the right direction, but I'm not going to give them a step-by-step instruction booklet or stand around holding their hand while they do it. I always wonder if some of these people aren't pro lifers and they're trying to get someone to step over the line so they can use it as a way to close the site down.

I think @Jean4 has already shown us her kitchen sink a couple of times now so. . .
it's probably too late to change the name of the thread though. :pfff:

hmm. I don't read a lot of the other threads so i never see anything that seems too ridiculous. The dirt thing i think i recall.... but i assumed that person was just off their rocker.

I do see a LOT of repetitive and lazy low-effort posts (which actually violate site rules) from people, exactly as you describe below.

I am convinced that this problem can be improved with some site tweaks. I posted a suggestion in the Feedback forum that mods consider creating a Methods specific subforum, moving the relevant info there (which everyone has access to), and then preventing people from posting in Methods until their accounts are a week old. The thread has gotten a lot of comments, and i hope at the discussion goes somewhere productive.

slow spread... even though not good. I mean always a possibility of infecting others, who've infected others, so tons of infected who don't know it.

still not worried though.
I'll let you know when to worry. Read who wrote the article and the last sentence ;)

Those are good ideas. Yeah, it would be useful if they could implement some ideas to improve the site. If there was some way they could clean some of the method threads up, which I think is part of what your suggestion was about. I think that might go a long way to people not asking all the same questions over and over again. I know that's what Stan was attempting to do in his thread. But he also knew that it was going to get all garbled up just like the other SN threads were at the time.

I'm not saying every new person here is doing things like that. I'm sure there are people here legitimately and people who are just like us that just want to talk to like minded people and so on. But we seem to be invaded by some of these other people. Or maybe it's always been this way and I just never noticed it before.

I'd still rather be hit by a meteor than get the virus.

i almost spilled my bear laughing.

look, unless i get some CREDIBLE, VERIFIABLE reports that a meteor is heading for our general direction i REFUSE to buy into this FAKE NEWS :pfff:

This is really strange because, on one hand, the local news here-as I said- is making out like the sky is falling. On the other hand, I'm seeing other places where people are saying that this is nothing to get excited about because they're most likely going to have a vaccine very soon. They seem to be trying to send two different and opposite messages at the same. I know they're trying to prevent people from panicking.

Was a "mod cleaned up methods with single post with locked thread pinned to top" one of the suggestions?

IDK, @Backwood_tilt, was that one of the suggestions? Sounds like another good one.
