How true is this? I think it is a bit true in fairness. Firstly, they give you SSRI's (which I know work for some people) but in general have been proven to be ineffective. I mean think about this, a drug that takes a month to work probably has a large "placebo" component given that every single drug has almost immediate effects no matter how subtle: benzos, opiates, alcohol, cocaine etc...
And suicide prevention is the big one here. A lot of therapists acknowledge the unfairness of life while still maintaining an absolutist stand on suicide which tells you they don't care about your emotions.
