The end of an era

It feels so strange. 3 months ago the Resources section was still there. Now nothing like that, only pro-life biases like we've seen everywhere. I understand Rain's decision to keep this forum safe, but honestly fuck the government they can all go to hell.
If the site gets shut down entirely, all they have managed to do is prevent their loved ones from having a peaceful exit at the time of their choosing.
I want all the NYT visitors and government officials to know that the only thing this will accomplish is ensuring the existence (and subsequent death) of your loved ones will be extremely painful and agonizing.
The failed attempts that lead to extended hospital stays and insurmountable debt will be your fault. If you want to show that you "care" for the people you love, maybe sit down and actually have a conversation about how they are feeling and why they feel that way instead of treating them like petulant children who need to be locked in their room, and have their toys taken away.

Yes, the forum has pretty much ended. I wanted to reply to threads that do not even mention methods but now I cannot. Oh well, that is life. If something makes you feel a little bit better it never lasts. I used to spend a lot of time writing posts on this forum. Now I have nothing.
It is the same way for me, now I have nothing. We live in a world where everything is time limited, everything changes. There are many people who want to stop Sanctioned Suicide, but these people do not suffer. However, I am glad that I found this website which I did by a coincidence. The society forces people to live, we are expected to suffer as long as possible before we die and there are researchers who want humans to become immortal.

Change is constant in every aspect of our lives. I've seen alot of change in my 2 years here now but this is definitely a big one. Hopefully things will swing back to some semblance of what it was.
I hope SS can bounce back to its former self. This community has been invaluable in providing a safe space to listen and share our experiences. Whatever happens I am glad to have met everyone here for the brief time we shared together. My deepest gratitude towards the site administrators and moderators for providing this service.

Suicide prevention just prolongs suffering. Forcing others to live to spare your own feelings is evil. Shutting down discussion about death and suicide only drives people into further isolation and desperation. A peaceful death is something everyone should have access to. Restricting access to information only forces people to take their lives through violent and dangerous methods.

I am so tired of being pulled in different directions by forces outside of my control. Existence becomes unbearable when you do not even have agency over your own life.
None of us chose to be born. We are just used up for the selfish purposes of others. Realizing that you are slowly being stripped of your own dignity and humanity with each passing day leaves this feeling of utter despair and hopeless in the pit of your stomach.

I really feel this is a huge loss for us all. I didn't post much but the support was still so meaningful for me to keep hanging on. I am a suffering in multiple ways but I have a family to work for/support. This place kept me grounded.
I never told you all my story cuz I couldn't put it in words.
If I could it'd be a pretty good novel but not a super fun life to live.
But this place gave me a reason to hang on.
Big loss. Hope it changes somehow.

I just wanted to say that your username really caught my attention. I always tried to picture death as a return to the void or oblivion. Although conceptualizing non-existence is something I still struggle with even in my last days on this planet.
I have found that everything in life is about power and control. There are only two types of people - those who step on others to get what they want and those who are stepped on by others. As a person who belongs to the later group, I am just tired of having my own dignity and humanity slowly stripped away. I hate the person I have become and fear what life has in store for the future.

Every pro-lifer who makes the "ripple effect" argument claiming that our death hurts other's feelings too…what about our feelings?
So our feeling of being in unspeakable pain and mental anguish isn't ok because it would hurt your feelings if we choose to escape from it??
If my death leads to your life being slightly more upsetting, I think that's a small price to pay to spare someone from agonizing mental torture. If anything, you should be happy they got to go peacefully and at a time of their choosing.
You pray and hope that your bedridden 90-year-old grandma who's hooked up to a feeding tube doesn't suffer "too much pain" as she's becoming a skeleton and looks around in terrified confusion wondering when this living nightmare of visitations from people she's starting not to recognize anymore will end, and then when she eventually dies from a painful stroke, you comfort yourself by saying that "at least she lived a rich and full life, right up until the end."
This isn't a fucking fairytale, you evil bastards. Lives can descend into an unbearable state, and you need to wake up and realize it.

Don't feel pressured. It is really difficult to fully explain the reasons why we want to ctb. You are not obligated to justify yourself either. Your reasons are your reasons and they are just as legitimate as anyone elses. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I wish I could see myself dying from a third person perspective. Knowing that you are finally free, even if it is for a split second would make this a whole lot easier.

Yeah but people are extremely selfish. People rather see their so called loved ones suffering in extreme agony than to let them go. Death reminds them of their own mortality, which is really uncomfortable to think about. It was never about the other person, it was always about themselves.

I am looking at the empty subforum page with only two threads (one of which, ironically enough, is about a method) and I can't help but feel this is the end of an era.
I'm grateful that at least the old subforum is archived and not permanently deleted.
Edit: I notice the thread about the method has disappeared.
It's definitely a big change. It will definitely cut down on discussion of a particular substance that certain newspapers have no issue naming publicly. I think we can still retain the essence of the forum and get through this change while the heat dies down.

This is going to force a lot of people to ctb. When people lose their last refuge and safe space they have no reason to continue living. Why can't these asshole forced-lifers realize they are one of the main reasons why people ctb in the first place.
I guess this experience summarizes life in general. You have no control over life and all things must come to an end.
I think this incident just proves that life can take a turn for the worse at any given moment. I don't think anyone expects to end up homeless or terminally ill. Life always finds new ways to make you suffer.
I am just glad I got to meet everyone here while we still had a chance. I think the concept of free speech on the internet will be a thing of the past.

This website , Marquis, most of the real members here were the only reality i found in this world the only truth. And these were one of the very few good things in life. Of course nothing makes up for the unbearable pain and torture that is possible in life as in homelessness or the dementia torture that happened to Robin Wiliams and Yahoo ceo Semel.
To Marquis and all the real members of SS ,It was great reading this website and all of your posts. i hate the NYT . Those NYT creeps destroyed everything.
Being born is a terrible fate. A lifetime of pain and humiliation just to die unceremoniously in the end. Never being born is the greatest gift of all. I am not sure why I am still here to be honest. This world has nothing left to offer me.
I understand the concerns and the current situation sucks but I don't think this is the end of an era. The archived subforum has 800'000~ posts and 55'000~ threads. That's an extensive amount of information that's still avaiable to everyone in this community. There is so much value in that subforum, I think that's highly underestimated. And as I said, I intend to keep these changes temporary and we're thinking really hard for solutions behind the scenes. It's not like we gave up on this community, we're trying to push through these waves and navigate our way around the turmoil. Once the storm is over, we'll see which directions open up. This isn't the end of times. It's a difficult chapter, sure - I agree with you but I'm confident the sun will rise again. And hey, this place still exists, the philosophy of this website hasn't changed and the community is still the same. It's not as bad as people make it out to be in my opinion.

I'm late to know about this and I understand whypeople are so frustrated. We bacame so dependent on this place and the discussions it allowed us to ha e here that we're feeling abandoned or even betrayed.
But try to position yourselves in the other side. What's the alternative? As much as we try resisting, we all know they're stronger than us and this place can be "easily" shut down. we're like ants in a house. were small and do them no harm, but they will try to get rid of us at all costs, because of our mere existence
The mods are just trying to keep the place afloat. As much as I don't like what is happening , I can understand it.
