I know that depression with suicide is not a physical illness but is a mental illness. But is it a terminal illness if it results in death? Not trying to offend any chronically ill or terminally ill people. Just something I contemplate.

Yes. I think it's similar to cancer. Not every cancer leads to death and not every depression leads to suicice but they are many people who died because being depressed so it's justifed to call depression a terminal ilness

Yeah no. While I don't down play depression nor mental health. And it's seriousness. It's nothing like cancer. Which can be chronic or terminal. A terminal illness you die from period. Without taking any action on yourself. Both involves suffering in different ways. But depression is not a terminal illness. Endless perhaps.

Closer to something like an infection if we're going to make the comparison. Treatments exist and are generally effective but that doesn't make the fatal cases any less fatal. It's not a terminal illness because death isn't a sure thing. Most people with depression don't commit suicide in the end, sort of like how most people with infections are fine after a course of antibiotics.

Suicide is not as physically debilitating nor results in death in every case like a terminal illness. I just ponder it because people don't realize how much death it does result in, and everyone raised awareness about terminal illness like they should and are super sympathetic. But when it comes to suicide, people view it entirely different.
I am not arguing that suicide is on the same level. I'm just observing the different ways people view two things that can result in death and suffering often.

The concept of mental illness is a mistaken metaphor, and nothing exposes this like the frequent biopsychiatric claim that depression is a fatal disease. It also really highlights how biopsych people have absolutely no idea of mental suffering, no sympathic understanding the suffering people who come into their hands.
