Three days ago I bought myself a mouse. It was something I had been thinking about doing for a while but I wasn't sure I should go through with it as I had been told not to by my flatmates. Last night, I had yet another suicidal breakdown at around 1am and since she's nocturnal, the mouse was awake. I calmed down and went to let her run around on my shoulders for a bit. She is just a baby. I still don't know whether I want to stay or go, but little things like her make me feel safe and happy. She doesn't feel important enough to be something to live for but don't let her know that, but she is significant enough to make me feel like I have a purpose for the time being. I don't really know what I am doing with my life, and/or if I even want it right now so I am just trying to get by until I make a decision. She makes getting by a little bit easier.

Good of you to have found a pet. Having a pet animal definitely does help in calming the mind. During one of my earlier major depressive episodes, I had a cat and he was of great help in easing my existential pain.

I like mice. Animals are certainly better than humans. I'm pleased for you that you have something that helps. I wish you the best.

I think this is very good that it helps you. (Though this would not be ideal for me.)
It is kind of a sweet story

I love mice, have you ever seen a curly mouse before? (I s2g creatures are probably one of the only wholesome things about life.)

Rodents are super smart, not to mention they have insane olfactory perception. If you want to get your mouse a treat, be aware they are very sensitive to scent (and they love to explore novel environments or objects) so even teeny things can make them very happy

Panera
She refuses to let me take good pictures of her but she is just a tiny white mouse! This is one of the best photos of her I have. I named her Panera after the US/Canada restaurant chain.

I hope you stay for her, they don't keep us company for long! We have 7 rats right now. They're amazing little beings. We've owned over 30 in total over the past several years and every single one had a different personality. It's nice to give such vulnerable pets a safe home.

She has a nice tail. I like how mouse tails look.

Update on the mouse situation: I couldn't take care of her as well as I planned. She started stressing me out because even though I was doing everything for her I worried I wasn't doing enough. I decided to check and see if anyone in my area would be a better caretaker for her and found a sweet lady in a city about 45 minutes away from me with 3 other mice who was more than willing to take her and her things and care for her. She is going to text me updates and photos of Panera in her new home and she said if things get better with me and I decide I want her back I just need to let her know and she will bring her home. I was really stressed about how that whole thing was going to turn out but it was a really good experience and I met someone incredibly nice. I guess the opportunity to have her back when I get my anxiety under control is a really good motivation.

Damn though, she really did not have to offer to give her back, nor to take care of her like she did. This is someone I literally have never met before?? Feelin extremely grateful :)

Don't sweat this small setback. Rodents are really high maintenance. I've found myself overwhelmed and feeling guilty about wanting to give the best care many times. It's beautiful you were so considerate for Panera and had a moment of compassion from someone.

If you get her back please know we can never be perfect for them. Just do your very best with lots of love.
