"Suicide Prevention" is a big business. Think about the doctors, psychologists and treatment centers who would be out of business if suicide was accepted. Let's not forget the good samaritans maning the hot lines to save us on a moments notice. Not to mention the pharmaceutical companies and all the drugs they sell to cure the crazy suicidal person. Remember, suicide is a mater of giving the person the right medications and talking to them. All of these fine, outstanding people have huge organizations to line the pockets of politicians who write the laws. Personally, I feel like my objecting to any of these people is just silent screaming. How is suicide different from abortion? It's not, it is just that abortion brings in lots of cash including tax dollars to support a "woman's right" to choose. Suicide is not seen as a right to choose, although that is exactly what it is. Deciding to leave this world on your terms is not wrong. All of us are going to die anyway so why not be able to pick your time and method of exit.
Religion is not really an issue as it does not profit from keeping someone alive. The best religions can do is to install guilt. Christian religions don't follow the bible, the leaders interpret the bible to have people do their will. The King James bible is a great example. A king writes his own version of the bible and to increase his control of his subjects. It is not different in any other religion. It is about control. I believe that God created us, gave us a free will, is forgiving and does not punish anyone for suicide.
I am not sure very many people share my beliefs, after all the doctors tell me that I have severe depression, anxiety disorder and possibly am psychotic. I never worry though, they have a pill to fix me and make me "normal" again.
