There are 2 things that I've always wanted to say to the people who tell me this.

1: "Having a permanent solution for chronic depression is exactly the fuckin point of committing suicide!"

2: "How do you know that depression is temporary? Are you aware of some permanent cure that's been recently invented? Or are you falsely equating the mental illness of chronic depression with the regular emotion of sadness, and assuming that because sadness subsides: depression will do the same?
You cannot see my future; you cannot see the day when my chronic depression ends. So, you have no place to say that it's temporary."

It could be a solution to a temporary problem but not always. It shouldn't be used as a blanket statement to dismiss how people are feeling. The problem could last so long that it might as well be permanent or maybe it is permanent.

Depression is a complex thing that works differently for different people. Some people are indeed able to overcome it or find a way to live with it. Just because someone can doesn't mean somebody else will too.

I simply hate that phrase and I wish people stop using it! If you don't understand someone who is suicidal then simply listen to them and try to understand them. People suffer so long and usually in silence because society has told us that suicide is wrong, so we stay quiet. People fail to realize that these aren't temporary problems, we have suffered for so long and we are tired of being in mental and also physical pain like myself. I think people believe we have a bad day and snapped and try to ctb, that is so far from the truth! I know there are a lot of lurkers out here reading and my only hope is they learn from what we write in hopes of helping others and understanding us. And please stop saying this stupid phase to us!!

Still hate this statement tbh. Every situation is always different. Some people have chronic problem that makes them always suicidal. I'm not going to judge them for their problem.

And also, define temporary and permanent. I'm not going to have chronic pain for 5 years to know that it's permanent and suicide is the only way out.

For me a permanent solution is all I want, I don't see what's supposedly so bad about never suffering in this torturous, futile existence ever again, in fact such is all that's positive to me.

Some people are emotionally numb. Depression is more deep and complex than simple sadness. Sure, there are solutions for problems but it's not about solution — it's about how a person feels and what will be the best choice for him.
I hate these stupid, cruel, fake caring phrases about suicide — "it's for weak people", "it's selfish", "other people have much worse situations", "you're just lazy", "just find a job to get rid of these stupid thoughts", "it's not the right way", etc, etc. It comes from people who have no idea how suffocating it feels to live with depression. Also, no one asked to be born, so at least give us a freaking choice about our own bodies.

i was just about to make a thread about this saying, lol. anyways, that phrase just makes ctb more appealing imo.
let's play along for a moment and act like all of our issues are temporary: you're telling me that i can PERMANENTLY rid myself of all my issues and every inconvenience... and that's supposed to be a bad thing?
struggling is just another part of living, there's no living without struggling—even if the struggles are minimal and temporary. life is a never ending string of back to back struggles. why wouldn't i want to rid myself of that shit? i guess the implication is that, in life, there are positive things that overpower those inevitable struggles; but that's just not the case for me and it never will be.

If the problem (life) is permanent, why the solution should be temporary?

Suicide is permanent solution to a current problem and problems that will certainly arise in the future.

Why wouldn't you want a permanent solution for literally anything?

"Oh I won't cure my illness for good but will take sleeping pills to forget about it every once in a while."

What kind of dumb shit mindset is that?

i fortunately dont have anyone say this to me since i am a permanent chronic pain case. however they do try to downplay the pain and say "it cant be that bad"

its weird how people will say anything, however much pejorative, to you to keep you alive.

i could never force someone to stay here and keep suffering for the sake of others. i hate when friends and family guilt trip you going "look what you are doing to ME" like it was ever about them. What about what im going through? Just embrace being selfish.

Another quote: Life is a sexually transmitted terminal illness with a 100 per cent mortality rate.

Oh, for fuck's sake! This... Boils my blood.
I think the saying should be... Suicide is not something you should try to comprehend with your tiny fucking brain if you are a typical dimwit pro lifer that has an easy life, filled with people that love you and have zero problems. Depression, is that for some - Terminal.
This is not a broken leg you can fix or something in the lines of taking insulin if you are a diabetic.
Shit sucks... The ones of us that are cursed with such an illness, could have at least be left in peace... But no. The human ape has to be as nasty as possible with it's primitive nature and go haunt the ones who are already down and kick them even.

Life itself is temporary... people seem to forget that and assume that they're somehow going to live forever. Ending it prematurely is just that - it was going to end anyway. So the phrase also makes no sense on that level.

I just watched a police bodycam video where they were trying to talk a guy with a rifle down from shooting himself. They said the same sad shit and it's like they really don't get it. Maybe it's not a "temporary problem" and it's just the way your brain is wired combined with all the shit you've been through. The guy ended up pointing the gun at the cops and got shot fatally. Some of the language used in de-escalation is both patronizing and oblivious to what that person really feels in the moment. Feel bad for the police who fired but dude got what he wanted.

and yet it seems many of us have problems that have lasted years and taking that into perspective those problems don't seem so temporary anymore which is what these people who quote such nonsense don't seem to understand

I have chronic pain that will only get worse in time. This is something that I still struggle to accept. I miss the simple things that people take for granted. I wish I could just run. I have no destination, but I just want to run. I would love to run in the rain. That would make me so happy!

Yeah man like what the fuck!! What's the point of saying that to suicidal people??? They can't even define what's a temporary problem and permanent problem!! Most of them were just looking at the minority of people who succeded in life and then say things like "these problem can be overcome"!! I bet those fucker don't even know the detail of that process, they just assume that life has it's MaGiC. Disgusting piece of shit!!!
