It will be very painful, take hours to days (depending on temp, etc... usually days)why do you say that?
Yeah, very painful way to die. Just like with fasting (not eating)It will be very painful, take hours to days (depending on temp, etc... usually days)
Dry throat, may even crack like dry lips, headache, many symptoms, and strong craving for water.
SI will be very strong too
I don't have any other method.Yeah, very painful way to die. Just like with fasting (not eating)

This. Your brain will fight you and make you crawl out of the wilderness back to society to get water. Hell, it might even make you get up and find a stream. You can start to smell water with extreme dehydration and it will drive you literally crazy.SI will be very strong too
I have to give it a shot. I don't have any other method available.This. Your brain will fight you and make you crawl out of the wilderness back to society to get water. Can suicide by dehydration be done? I don't have any other option.I've gotten lost on treks before and run out of water. It's horrible. I assume you'll be out in the Sun to make it faster, which makes it 10x worse but will speed it up. I can't remember all the symptoms but the thirst alone is way worse than you'll expect, your body ends up parched, the headaches don't go away, it's impossible to eat anything because there is no moisture to get it down. It's just an awful experience. And if it's not crazy hot, it'll take at least 3-4 days, during the latter part of which you'd level up all of this considerably from what I experienced. You could theoretically test this at home if you wanted to. Just don't drink or eat anything for 2 days and you'll start to get a sense of it, particularly if you spend a lot of time in the Sun.
Water fasting (not eating) is a very different experience. I've done a number of these and you survive a very long time. The longest I've done is 40 days at a time, but I'd be shocked if I couldn't go far longer without dying. Maybe even a year. After 40 days, I usually had no interest in coming out of it. It's more a nuisance than a craving. The longest medically supervised water fast was 382 days iirc (Angus Barbieri), although I suspect there are longer ones unsupervised - it's not easy to get supervision for something like that. You're more likely to die refeeding too fast after a fast like that than during it.
Doubtful it can practically be doneCan suicide by dehydration be done? I don't have any other option.
Well theoretically. People have died by dehydration before lost in the desert and things like that. But it's one of the most painful ways to go - it will be agonising for days. Can suicide by dehydration be done? I don't have any other option.
why do you say that?Doubtful it can practically be done
so you are saying it can't be done?A lot of people would do it if it was that easy! It'd probably be the easiest method if we could just stop drinking water and die.

I'm not saying you cannot do VSED but it's really difficult to go through with it and it's slow and agonizing - that's what I'm saying. Most likely you won't be able to die of dehydration unless you're in a desert. Don't underestimate SI when u have tap water access at home but try to resist after 2-3 days without drinking & eating.why do you say that?
s
so you are saying it can't be done?
Because while it may be possible, it isn't as practical as the other methods on the site, due to the pain, etc.why do you say that?

It should take up to 3 days to dye from dehydration. At the beginning you feel headaches, nausea, thirst, then difficulty breathing, moving, interference with hearing and seeing, and loss of consciousness, then death. If you pass a certain stage when you start having difficultly moving with out being rescued, and that will occur within less than 3 days, you will definitely dye. You will however suffer to the extent that you might abort the whole thing and reach for help. Being in hot climate, in the sun or in the dessert will shorten the process drastically. How ever there is a high chance of being rescued and saved.
A father and daughter died of heat exhaustion same day on a 8.1 mile loop in Canyonlands National Park Utah 2024. It was an exceptionally hot summer and there were a bunch of heat deaths throughout the southwest.Way longer than 3 days.
You would most likely be found and rescued, or suffer from thirst so much you will give up and drink. By suffer I mean lose judgment and clarity of your goal that is dying.I've often wondered about that. All I have to do is stop eating and drinking. Seems simple. So why am I still here?
Slow and horrible, unless you wanna die out like a swag ass buddhist monk. Your choice anyway, just saying.I plan to commit suicide by dehydration in an abandoned area. How practical is this plan?
